San Francisco Dining

Sugar Butter

Okay, MLers, I need help. I'm heading to SF this July 4th (yay) and only have 5 days/4 nights to cram as much food down my gullet as is humanly possible while enjoying this food.

So far on my list: Brioche Bakery, Liguria Bakery, Patisserie Philippe, and Tartine.

Despite my devotion to a diet comprised mostly of sugar and butter with a side of flour, I do need some savory sustenance.

I have a short list of must-eats: In-n-Out (animal-style, of course), El Tonayense Taco Truck, Saigon Sandwich Shop, and possibly Burgermeister. I'd love to have a meal at Aqua but my wallet would cry.

Any restaurant recommendations? Yvo, you mentioned Saigon-style phô- where can I find this place?

    - Mission burrito at El Farolito
    - Offal and other good stuff at Incanto
    - Tea salad at Burma Superstar
    - Shaking beef at the Slanted Door
    - chile crab and garlic noodles at Thanh Long
    - ciopinnio at Woodhouse Fish Company
    - Probably the best bowl of pho i've ever had, anywhere was at Nam Tien in San Jose
    - Boulevard and Waterbar were good, but pricey
    - Andalu is pretty popular for tapas
    - Michael Mina's is overrated, Gary Danko is not
    - Aqua didn't hold a candle to Le Bernardin... so not worth it
    - San Tung for Chinese food (everything is fried!)

Hanoi style pho - it's in Little Saigon at Turtle Tower.

Roll-n-Roti is the porchetta truck Steven speaks of.
I prefer Bi-Rite Creamery to Humphry Slocombe.
Ella's for the best corned beef hash you'll dream about later.

I like Crabhouse at Pier 39, which is a little touristy, but you sit near the windows and see the sea lions and listen to them, and eat a giant dungeness crab with garlic all over it and it is just awesome... :)

There's a porchetta truck in SF? Wooo! And Humphry has prosciutto ice cream!! Cheese, do you realize what you've just done to me? They even have something called Government Cheese! And White Chocolate Lavender.

Chris, you're awesome! What a list! I was already considering some of your suggestions (Burma Superstar, Slanted Door, Woodhouse Fish Co., Gary Danko) so it's nice to have my choices validated.

Dude, NOTHING holds a candle to Le Bernardin; I still drool over the memory of my one meal there. It was utterly sublime. Eric Ripert will be mine someday!!

Sugar Butter (Great name btw), their specialty is apparently Secret Breakfast which has bourbon in it.

  8. Sugar Butter

Cheese, you had me at bourbon.

Bi-Rite, Humphry Slocombe, Roll-n-Roti, pho at Turtle Tower, and oh my God, Ella's for corned beef hash (it's so gross but so good!), the Crabhouse... Clearly I will need to spend an additional week in SF if I want to eat my fill (shut up, Cheese).

What I say? Not one inappropriate double entendre was written.

Aw Cheese, I'm sorry. I'll bring back some focaccia from Liguria Bakery for you. Unless you prefer something sweet?

And did I mention you have very nice hands? :D
