The mysore masala dosa is awesome! A very good lunch for $5. Two small scoops of sambar and a coconut chutney to go with the dosa.

Though it is more of a spiced potato burrito than a dosa but no complaints. It's a dosa CART!

Sami is very pleasant and friendly too.
If you can handle the heat, he will add green chilies to your dosa. HOT!

I agree. Those are yummy dosas. He's still at 39th near Broadway, right?

  3. Try the Masala Uttapam. It's made from the same batter as the Dosa. It's like a pancake rather then a crepe. The Dosa potato filling which is inside the Dosa is cooked on top. If you like spicy, ask him to add the dry chili powder on it. And if your really brave ask him to add green chilies!!!

  4. @lke..yup he is still there..but beware there is another cart almost on top of him selling dosa's too..:)

you guys convinced me-- I'm getting this for lunch today and I'm REALLY EXCITED!

    holy crap: YUM!

  7. Just had the non-veggie plate ($7) for lunch yesterday. Chicken Tikka Massala, lentils, pickle, and something else I'm blanking on. Plus, they threw in a fried disk thing (again, blanking on the name - it's Thursday evening, what d'ya want). So satisfying, delicious, and plentiful!

wait-- where did you find it?? I've been looking for the Dosa cart for weeks now-- I just went out to try and find it AGAIN and no luck. I wandered over to 39th and 6th on the chance that it was there, and I found a different cart that said DOSA all over it that doesn't actually have dosas... On the bright side I did have Puri-Bhaji for the first time and enjoyed it very much!

  9. Yeah, where did he go? The cart hasn't been there in ages.

  10. Yeah, my bad. I guess I was confused by the location and their DOSA signage. The cart I experienced was the same one Sarah speaks of. And the Phuri Bhaji the fried disks I mentioned earlier. Do they really not serve dosas there? That's messed up. Again, the non-veg plate was killer. Just sayin.

no worries-- you'd THINK that a cart that says "DOSA" all over it would have dosas, but... I'll probably Puri-Bhaji again if the Sami cart doesn't return... My fall-back is the news stand with indian food in the back on 6th does makes dosas but its $6

  12. That place ("Indian Newsstand"/Bombay Fast Food) is solid. I stopped in today and crammed a plate of this into my face: http://blogs.villagevoice.com/forkintheroad/2011/10/nylon_khaman_at.php

Didn't even think to order Dosas there. I'll have to give em a try.

SO I had to run an errand in the Garment District today and I was absolutely THRILLED to walk by 39th and Broadway and see a cart with "DOSA" on it-- I swooped in for further info: "Swami Dosa cart" and the guy was indeed making dosas. I ran my errand and came back and ordered. Unfortunately for me, apparently a woman had ordered and then taken off before her food was ready. Then he says to me: "yes miss?"
    "Masala Dosa, please!"
    "Spicy?"
"No! not spicy, just a little"
    "Okay"
and he hands me the dosa he'd just made for someone else. I say: "that one has a LOT of Chile on it!"
"No, no-- not spicy, just a little...."
"Uhhhh, are you sure bc I really am a wuss..."
    "not spicy!"

Since I'm a wuss on all fronts I took it. And I presently have sweat dripping from my temples and my lips are burning and all red, but I did manage to eat every scrap of that (SPICY) Dosa. So, mixed feelings about today's lunch...
