agreed. they all serve the EXACT same shit food!

They probably use the same baker and they probably use the board's head coldcuts...lettuce is lettuce, so is tomato..and mayo and mastard..so what makes you think they will be different. lol
i actually like Blake and Todd deli...love their sandwich and dessert.
The worst one is Prat a manger. I rather eat a pizza cone than their food. -
they use boarshead?!
-
@mkim - you are missing the point. This isn't about slicing up cold cuts and putting it on a piece of bread.
he entire menus at these awful places are practically identical, all the sandwiches and pastries and soups look the same, are pretty much packaged the same, etc. The crappy paninis that are probably delivered in a box of 100 from Sysco.

and WAY overpriced.

Agreed. And "The Thong Song" was totally boss. -
ha

@Chris - funny, my iTunes just randomly went to that song a short while ago. Sisqo thanks you for the plug, btw.

Pax/Europa/Metro are for the non-adventurous lunch-goers. Even then, you're better packing your own lunch from home then.
And I wouldn't rather eat a pizzacone over Pret. At least I know there are certain sandwiches I like and they use fresh ingredients. Not sure I'd appreciate paying for a pizzacone.

Metro is ok for bacon & egg on a bagel in the morning. Generic delis are pretty much the only places I know of for breakfast. I'm not paying $7 for some lox. keep that fancy shit.
-
bagels at blue flower is where its at though
-
i actually dont mind Metro...not for their cold sandwiches...but their made to order pan pizza and pasta station isnt half bad...
pax however is garbage.

Insider info:
PAX and Europa are owned by the same company, not sure about the others. They do have in-house kitchens - sandwiches, at least, are assembled on site. Not sure if things arrive partially cooked or not. There is usually a massive army of delivery boys of dubious visa status working 12 hour days on ingredient prep, making (barely?) minimum wage.
I think they stay around primarly because they're so boring. Many people are boring - used to chains, and consider these a "step up" from fast food.
never EVER spring for their "fresh squeezed" orange juice - it's freshly poured out of a vat of Florida Natural every morning.

I am not sure if there was a forum in here on this topic or not, so I figured I' start one.
Does anyone have any insight into the economics or management of the dozens of Pax/Europa/Metro cafe clones that now seemingly everywhere? I am working a gig at 57th and Lex and I swear to Jebus that there are at least 2 dozen lunch spots, all with different brands names, that are serving the exact same food
Aside from Pax, Metro, and Europa, there is Gigi Cafe, Lunch Exchange, Fresh & Co... there seems to be one on every corner.
Are they all owned by the same people? They obvisoulsy are sourced by the same bakery (sandwiches, pastries, soups). But I am wondering if there is a real cabal behind the scenes.
