NY Experience Food

I have some guests coming from out of town who would like to have some great/classic NY food experiences but are not the suite and tie set (so i'm not taking them to Daniel et al.). Anyone have any recommendations? Doesn't need to be midtown and cost is not an issue. Thanks!

I'd recommend Chinatown for cheap chinese fare, malaysian and vietnamese food. Can't go wrong if they are adventurous and won't hurt your wallets.

Street Meats for sure in Midtown if they're game. 53/6th, SW corner at night or SE corner during the day.

And nothing like a dirty water hot dog to get them familiar with NYC!!

Yea, I like to go the cheap route. Whatever.
Go to a fancy steakhouse if you want classier.

red egg in chinatown for dim sum is my fav.
    crif dogs and pommes frites.

Classic New York? Like pastrami, dirt water dogs, a slice of pizza?

go to sarge's on 3rd avenue and 36th street for corned beef or pastrami. great food without paying for the hype of katz's, carnegie, or 2nd avenue deli

Opps. Never been. And it's been a while since I did dim sum in NYC chinatown. Menu looks aight tho. But 4.50 for their version of shrimp dumpling/ har gow? It better be SUPREME!

ride the SI ferry and get a lobster roll at Urban Lobster for the ride.

    Urban Lobster Shack
15 Stone Street, New York NY 10004 (Financial Dist., b/n Broadway/Broad Street; map); 212-809-2626; urbanlobstershack.com

Go walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and hit up Grimaldi's and Brooklyn Ice Cream factory while you're at it... ;P

let me clarify..DO NOT GET OFF THE FERRY IN SI....just come right back around.

Lobster is not a "NYC" food. Urban Lobster is just a dim shadow of the great lobster you can get all over the place in Boston. At twice the price.

For NYC food, Sarge's or Katz's would be a good rec. Definitely need a streetmeat platter too. A good slice or sit-down pizza is a must. And bagels from H&H, Murrays, etc. I defer to the above comments about Chinatown places, which all sound good. Definitely need to include some cart/truck food for the 'experience.'
