There is a small Japanese supermarket on 47th street between Lex and 3rd Ave. They are not 'cheap' but they have some great options for lunch if you work near this place. My luxury lunch includes, a sashimi salmon box(about 10 generous pieces of nicely sized salmon sashimi) for $6, one onigiri for $2. I also picked up a black sesame mochi for $1.29 and a small bag of Japanese candy for $1. It all came out to be a bit more than $10. Those sashimi box actually does fill you up believe it or not. I was surprised but if you still want more food, you can get 2 onigiri and skip the mochi..and it's still around $10(plus tax)
