Midtown sit down venues

Quick question for Midtown Lunch crowd - I'm looking for something a notch or two up the pyramid from most of the venues profiled here. Can anybody offer some great recommendations for sit-down places in midtown Manhattan to take my father who is going to be in town? Many thanks in advance!

For lunch? What kind of food are you thinking (carnivore, veggie, hate ethnic foods, like ethnic foods...)

Anthos? never been but I dont think they're *that* expensive.

  3. Thinking carnivore and less ethnic (his tastes are pretty simple).....American, Mexican, etc. Thanks! Anthos might be a wee bit on the expensive side, but one to keep in the pocket for when it's on somebody else's dime.
