Slightly out of bounds, Piece of Chicken at 45th and 9th. As the name suggests. Can get a couple of big pieces, a side and a soda for $6. The lines have been getting longer now that it's nice(r) out.
No where to eat there(you buy it right out of part of what was the former Jezebel kitchen)

Washoku @ 9 E 37th St | Btwn 5th & Madison Ave $4.99 lunch special. Go for the spicy chicken.

most of the hot heros and cold sandwiches at park italian gourmet (45th & 6th) can be had for $6 or less

lunchbox buffet, 5 dollars (incl tax) 5 combinations, a real hefty amount of food. seriously. 34th bet. 7th and 8th.
the fried chicken legs are midtownlunch GOLD. -
Ranch One near the corner of 46th and 5th has been passing out coupons for 2 dollars off any combo outside on the street. With two dollars off, every combo is under 5 dollars (I think like $4.77 post tax). They also hand out coupons in the morning on the corner of either 46th or 47th and 6th.
A solid sandwich, fries, and a drink for under 5 bucks is a great deal.

So being the cheap bastard that I am.. many times.. I will opt for less desirable options to keep my lunch at around 5$ pre-tax and under $6 post-tax... but these options that I know of suck... (i.e. subway $5 footlong, dunkin donuts flatbread..) I know that most of the chicken/lamb and rice places are <= $6... but what are your favorite lunches in midtown that are <= $6 (post-tax)?
