Lunch Repeats

Steve

Do you go to the same five places for lunch each week?

same place multiple times?

order the same thing each time?

i was thinking about getting out to try more places, but with the 3 or 4 places close by to my office it is hard to get out of the comfort zone.

I started tracking where I went for lunch every day about two months ago. Halal Guys and the Sombrero each get 1x/week, and these days I rotate 8-10 other places -- Hing Won, Minar, City 75, Yip's (I know, but they're right downstairs), Kwik Meal, Kim's Aunt, etc. -- into the other three weekly spots. Very rarely do I stray from my comfort zone - only when I hear a place is worth my time, which has been rare.

Through trial and error I've got about 10 places I go to regularly. I'd love to stray more but only get an hour for lunch and I hate rushing. Carnegie John gets minimum 2x a week though.

    Let's see..
I go to XPL cart, Gourmet 53, Korea palace, and today, i went to the Japanese market on 47th street which is the best find so far(bought 2 spicy tuna rice balls for $1 each).
I work in the buiding that has Dish deli in it and the line during lunch hours is crazy long. can anyone tell me why? Is there anything really good?

mkim - laziness? The deli outside the GS building is always super long lines, so one day I decided to wait and nothing I've ever had there was particularly good. And this place closes by like 4:30 pm I think? 3 maybe? It's not open on weekends. So it makes enough money in 30? 40 hours a week to pay rent and pull a good profit. Kind of scary.

It's mainly XPL or my cafeteria during the week because it's right here, on the same floor as our office, and cheap food options than outside anyway.

Gourmet 53 like once every 2 weeks. 53/6 Halal Guys, Pret A Manger and Cravings Truck is infrequent at once a month or less.

The line at the Subway in the subway station at Rockefeller Center is my favorite (as I pass through on the way to 48th St or 46th St). By 12:30 the line is wrapped inside, heads out the door and wraps the outside wall. Thirty people, usually. Guess the recession hits everyone.

I went once a year ago, and the roast beef had that iridescence on it that tells you it's real high-quality and not out of date whatsoever.

  7. @mkim - we practically have the same rotation: XPL, Korea Palace, Gourmet 53... I would also have to add El Rey into the mix there...
