Low Key Spot for a Birthday "Party"?

Press Box---2nd ave btwn. 49-50. good food, good bartenders, provided you're their to drink and not order waters and waste their time (not trying to make judgments here---the bartenders are actually dicks if too many people arent boozing).

Greetings midtown lunchers...Long time follower, first time (I think) poster.
Much to my chagrin, I'm turning 30 in a couple of weeks. I spent my 29th in California on business and it passed without much fanfare. Was hoping for something similar this year, but a few friends, and a girl who I may or may not be dating (long story) are lobbying heavily for some sort of birthday shindig. I don't really want to, but will probably give in to peer pressure, so I may as well start planning something.
I live on East 40th, and would like something reasonably close since I plan on getting obliterated. I have a few places in mind, but wanted to reach out to those who may be more knowledgeable than I am, just in case I'm missing a any possibilities.
