Looking for Spicy "Clear Out Your Sinuses" Soup

Brownie

Hi guys, I've been struggling with a cold and allergies for the past week and it's affecting my sense of taste. :( All I want to eat is really spicy soup that will clear out my sinus. Add noodles to the mix and that would be awesome. Side note, I don't eat beef.

Somewhere in the west 40s near Rock Center would be ideal but I can travel anywhere in west midtown.

I hit the noodle bar at Woorijip Friday for their Spicy Pork and Kimchi soup and was very disappointed that they took the noodles out of the dish. WTF. it's the "noodle" bar.

I was gonna give you the Sichuan Beef Brisket Noodle Soup from Sichuan Gourmet till I saw the beef note. A comment like that makes me not want to help you!!!

She eats pork, so you can help her.

  3. the tom yum soups at wondee siam or chili thai if you explain that you want them really hot will clear you out. That's my plan today for the same reason.

I would suggest a malaysian noodle soup of udang mee/prawn mee. The spicy red shrimpy broth(if they make it right) should knock your sinuses back into place. Too bad most malaysian places are downtown/ near chinatown though. There is Laut but that's on 17th, 5th and Broadway.

If you must have soup, try hot & sour soup from your local fav. chinese take-out and add extra hot sauce to it. I think the crunchy chow mein pack is a plus. ;P

How about Wu Liang Ye (on 48th btw. 5+6th). They must have some spicy Szechuan style soups.

i think tom yum soup from anywhere will clear your sinuses...ive had it from several places...all with their own distinct flavor but all very good and all very spicy...well..u should ask for it extra spicy depending on your spice threshhold.

It's not exactly soup (a bit soupy), but I think the ma pao tofu at Szechuan Gourmet would take care of your sinuses and wake up your taste buds nicely!

  8. Right next to Han Bat on 35th between 6th and 5th is a Korean tofu restaurant that makes really good spicy tofu soups, altho no noodles.

And if you feel like heading downtown, the La Sa Tom at Saigon Grill on University Pl is what I always crave when I'm sick. A little spicy and very comforting.

  9. Seafood soon du bu from any restaurant in K-Town or Cafe Duke.

  10. spicy chicken tortilla vegetable soup from Mi Nidito (on 8th ave and 50th street). You get chips and salsa with it too and the salsa is also sniffle inducing.

  11. forgot one. Pam Real Thai has red or green vegetable curry. It's normallly kind of spicy but you can request it off-the-hook spicy. Very very good.

Try a nice bowl of refreshing mul naeng-myun (cold Korean buckwheat noodles). Most of the restaurants in K-town will serve it, but I like Seoul Garden's. Add a little extra mustard sauce, and you'll be clear in no time.

  13. You're probably all better now, but for next time, the Jjam Bbong at Hyo Dong Gak (35th btwn 5th and 6th)..

ask them to make it extra spicy... It should do the trick
