A bit out of bounds, but Todaro Brothers on 2nd Avenue around 32nd strret is phenomenal.

It's not super close to Rock Center, but have you done the whole "make your own sandwich" thing at Murray's Salami in the Grand Central Terminal Market?

If you gather up a few friends it makes it cost effective. They also have those pre packaged combos now if you're flying solo:

I spent 28 bucks at Murrays and was able to make 7 hearty sandwiches....I say invest in bulk. It keeps well! And now I have to try that Todaro's! Only 3 blocks away!

this is WAY out of bounds, but if you're on the east side, take the 6 to canal, walk up 2 blocks to the Italian Food Center at mulberry and grand. Huge, relatively cheap, amazing sandwiches.

Jill, if I'm there I'd be hard-pressed not to just duck into Nyonya for some yummy Malaysian! But I will check that place out next time I'm in that area.

I like a good Italian hero, but can't seem to find any in Midtown, specifically near Rock Center.
Living right near Graham Avenue in Williamsburg, I am spoiled by *quality* Italian heroes, but they're hard to come by here in Midtown. Usually they're prepackaged or Boar's Head crap.
Anyone have any recommendations?
