Where did you come from Shivery??? Bumblef*ck US where the population of people is exceeded by the population of cows?
I am just kidding... I hope that's clear
***NM, I re-read the first couple of posts.

Shivery - I was getting sick on Saturday, sneezing, nose running, total mess, and totally pissed off as I don't have time to get full blown sick. So I made my magic soup: basically you take meat (I've used various types of sausages in the past, including breakfast maple link sausage, chorizo, Italian - which is what I used on Saturday, and I've used bacon) and brown it in the bottom of a pot. After a minute or two, add minced garlic, onions, shallots, whatever you want really, and a good handful of red pepper flakes, the hotter you can take, add a bit more than you can take.
After it's all browned and going and smelling delicious, add your combination of whatever veggies are in the fridge, or if you are buying stuff specifically to make this, get carrots (diced up or shredded carrots from Trader Joe's are great for this), add some leafy greens (I add whatever's in my fridge, but good things to add are kale, collards, chard, that kind of hardy leafy green). You can also add celery, spinach, ooh I like green cabbage... potatoes if you like things a bit heartier... whatever, just add a crapload of veggies, stir it all around, add a bit of salt & pepper, stir again, everything should be wilting a bit, and then add chicken stock to cover, bring to a simmer, let simmer for 10-15 minutes or until the veggies are soft...
then put it in a bowl and start drinking it.
It's not the kind of thing you serve to guests but I swear you'll feel better after a bit of sweating from how hot the soup is and the heat from the red pepper flakes (you can add cayenne too if that's not spicy enough for you)... and after a good night's sleep, you'll feel about 1000x better. Works for me - from stress, I was on the brink of getting sick 3 times this summer, and instead made this soup and was all fine and dandy.
Enjoy!

Speaking of soup, I've made this before a take on 40 clove chicken soup.
You have to like garlic obviously. Diced jalapenos and chile flakes, veggies (red bell, tomatoes, collard greens if you have it, cabbage, onion, cilantro or herbs of your choice), dark meat chicken, stock or water to top it off, smashed garlic cloves (as much as you can handle and more, just like the jalapenos), salt, pepper.
Just boil all that up until the chicken falls off the bone. All the chiles and garlic are so good for you. I use whatever is the fridge, so the basic base just needs to be chicken, garlic and peppers. Then add what ever you like.

Ma pao tofu. That will fry any germs floating around, and in a most tasty way!

All of the above is great, especially the soups, but - no shill - tank up on Nighttime Theraflu. It'll knock you out. You'll sweat it out by the am.

God, I find it sad that people actually have to stop and say "No shill" like "No homo" or something now.

Ugh, I have the plague that's going around right now and I ate some spicy lamb curry. That was great for temporarily clearing out the sinuses. I think I may try some of your spicy soup suggestions though. Yum.

onions. and wasabi.
theraflu rox my sox. 2 packs and i'm good as new. sometimes there's too much fluid though, and by the time i'm done swallowing, my mouth is numb and i'm exhausted. pause.

*mumbling* I know I shouldn't take the bait... but I can't help it...

Yvo - I had to physically shut my computer off in order to keep myself from saying that. Thanks for taking one for the team.

It's a disease, I have to say it whenever I see the chance.

Guys. I think I'm getting sick. Help me fight it off. Who eats what to keep germs away? I'm a New Mexican/New York transplant and usually eat a giant bowl of green chile stew, so I'm not afraid of spice.
Help!
