life tends to flow in themes... I just had dinner at Patzeria and witnessed the ultimate in KETCHUP WRONGNESS.
white pizza slice... with ketchup slathered on (and possibly in a happy face design) by two tourists. after a patron told them "as a ny'er, I HAVE to tell you that is so wrong", the owner said that tourists do it "all the time".
I was holding my mouth and trying not to vomit.

Prefer mayo, optional ketchup (not much tho), sometimes mustard, grilled onions (not raw), not too big on veggies (lettuce/tomato), no pickle (too strong for the meat). Sometimes I'll add wasabi to the mayo--mmmmm.....

.. but.. but.. cheese fries with ketchup is good. :(

The original question, what I like on my burger? The first time I go to places, I tend to want a 'plain' burger or bacon only, and add on tomato slices and MAYO. Because a good burger, properly cooked, will be juicy and the meat juices mix with the mayo to form its own ketchup *mmmmmmmm.
I don't often order burgers with a lot of crap on it, but I have been pleased with some that have stuff on it. It just doesn't occur to me to mess with the meat + meat (bacon) + cheese + ... yummmm
Wait, what was the question?

my burger would always come semi-deconstructed with a side of coleslaw. And then i'd dump the slaw right into it and nosh.
sometimes, if i'm in the right restaurant, i'll get it with ketchup, onion straws and 2 slices of american cheese-like product.
i haven't had a mcdonalds burger in who knows how long... i think they would taste ok with mustard.

I like stuffing FRIES in my burger too sometimes. ;P
Rarely, onion rings too. -
minetta tavern's black label burger. they dont let you put anything on it esp if it's your first time there. just meat, bun, and i think there are some cooked onions on there (eh), but honestly... that was the best burger i ever had in my life. if that's the way burgers tasted all the time, id always eat 'em plain. i just find that usually, they need a lil somethin' somethin'.. u know what i'm sayin'? ;)

Mayo doesn't go anywhere near my burger. If it's on there I will throw the burger at the person who fixed it up. Ketchup doesn't belong on a burger, but I understand it's the Yankee way.
Classic: lettuce, tomato, sharp cheddar, grilled/fresh onions, optional bacon, mustard on the bottom. Top it all off with a fried egg and I am like a crack addict getting their next hit.
Mushroom swiss: just as the name sounds.
If the burger is super juicy or the egg is really runny, I like to put fries on the bottom.

I'm going a little off-track with today's burger. (Although, mm, my burgers don't need something extra--I just like extras!) Burger cut into big pieces, with egg (runny yolk), queso cheese sauce and pepperjack cheese, and guacamole in a tortilla. I have no idea what to call it, so I'll just eat it.

an onion ring on my burger is always welcome...

Interesting question:

Also makes me wonder what do you like on your burger?
Personally I'm a mustard gal: mustard on burgers, sandwiches, fries. How about you and can you answer the above, linked, question?
