Well. To answer my own question a little...an article in Crains at the end of September reveals this (if anyone cares)
"The Holey Cream, combining the ice cream from 32-year-old Upper East Side stalwart Sedutto Ice Cream with doughnuts from Long Island’s 55-year-old Dreesen’s Famous Donuts, will open in about six weeks."

oh my, when you said combining doughnuts and ice cream, my first impression (naturally) was a soft-serve filled doughnut. how awesome would that be for breakfast!?

With hot fudge dipping sauce.

They aren't as good as they look unfortunately.

Dreesen's donuts?? I tried those donuts when i was in East Hampton last summer and thought they were the best tasting donuts in the World..and i am not even a big donut fan. I am so glad they are opening up a location in NYC.

close to what i was thinking patrick. except i was thinking a poofy yeast donut like from doughnut plant, and with soft serve injected into it and entirely contained.
and hell yea on the fudge dipping sauce, d!

For a major doughnut lover like myself who works in Midtown, this is quite a development. For a little background on the respected stature of Dressen's Doughnuts, check out this piece that ran in the NY Times Long Island section two weeks ago:

I actually talked to the owner the other day, and he said they had an internal pastry chef making the doughnuts... maybe they used to work at Dressen's? But he made it sound as if the doughnuts would be made in house..
The ice cream will come from the same supplier as Ciao Bella.

Well in any event, I'm looking forward to the idea being in the area. Thanks for the extra info!

As I was walking along (out of bounds) 9th ave at 53rd St. I noticed a sign in the old record store there for "Holey Cream" According to the sign its "outrageous donuts & ice cream."
A google search only showed a job listing looking for a manager but the ad implied Donuts, Ice cream, Cupcakes and hot and cold beverages.
I've been dying for a good donut shop in the neighborhood. Are they making their own donuts or importing them from somewhere (doughnut plant? donut pub?) Does anyone out there have any info?
