Herald Square Scraps

Is anyone as frustrated with the Herald Square lunch selection as I am? I mean, after you eat your Kati Rolls and Chipotle, you are held captive by the clutches of the over priced sandwich. Sometimes I feel like I should just start eating fast food, but thats like hanging out with the kids who did too many drugs in school. Help me! I'm Hungry!!

woorijip in k-town is at least once a week.

Cafe Pom Pom on 32nd between 6th & 7th is my go-to sandwich spot. A great sub for 7.50.

    falafel laffa @ olympic pita

  2. I have yet to explore the world of K-Town lunch. I hear good things though.

woorijip is the least intimidating for us caucasians.

i do like the sandwiches from don pepe's in penn...all boars head, always makes for a good sandwich.
Oh and there's always Duane Reade sushi!

  6. What's standard at Woorijip? What's the PB&J of Korean Lunch?

  7. Steve

kimbap is korean sushi. made with beef or tuna or fake crab.

I feel you, too, Lone Luncher. I bring my lunch 80% of the time since our office moved to Herald Sq. But Woorjip is tasty and cheap-- I usually end up spending way too much cash by picking up a few tasty looking packages of prepared food (not from the buffet) ALSO I've mentioned before, I really like Cafe Rustico II on 35th for Pizza. Good sicilian slice... My real secret shame though is sometimes I'll hop on the B or D to W 4th and go to Mamouns for falafel or baba or lentil soup.

Lazzara's has pretty good pizza. Square slices and plenty of topping choices. However, I wasn't a fan of Cafe Rustico II. Their slices just didn't do it for me and bad buffalo wings. Good garlic knots though.

On 35th & 5/6, I did enjoyed Madangsui for their bulgogi lunch box. Also nearby, Cho Dang Gol has decent korean tofu dishes. But for cheaper options, I need to hit up Woorijip sometime soon. It should be worth the subway ride for me.

Sarah, I don't understand the appeal of Mamoun's. Can you explain it to me? I find it tasteless and bland. I'm utterly mystified.

Have you ever been to Taim in the West Village? Now THAT falafel is worth a subway ride. Or you could just walk up to Maoz at 40th & 7th. That's good too, especially with the awesome salad bar choices that you can cram into the pita. And for the meat eaters, there's the Little Morocco cart at 39th & 7th. I like that African steam-table joint on W. 26th near 7th too.

    Appeal of Mamouns = $2.

Mamoun's = cheap falafel option. Their hot sauce is good though. Not a fav. falafel place of mine but I can see the appeal when you are cheap like me or broke as a non-trustfundy NYU kid.

Taim, however, is one of my favorite falafel palces. Their harissa falafel is really good - do wish it was spicier though. ;P
