Help: lunch places. Near 5 ave and 58 street?

Hello all I came across this cool forum and realized that I need help! I am starting to work at 5 ave and 58 street and am wondering if there any good but not too expensive deli places? And what types of cuisine are there in the area!!? Sushi? Indian? American? Good burger place? Good deli with hot salad bar?!! Anyhow please post some ideas for me!! I am worried that everything will be too overpriced and not really familiar with food places in the area!! Thanks all!

  1. Pretty much the point of the entire site, but near you, Certe is a good start.

ma peche, now w/ desserts, is a decent, if pricier option. hallo berlin on 54th, katsuhama, men kui tei, tang pavilion, off the top of my head are some good places to check out. Lots of trucks have started parking around 55th and 6th recently too.

I used to work at 9W57th, but that was 2 years ago, so I'm sure things have changed. Your best bet is looking at the map:

For cheap chinese food - http://midtownlunch.com/2009/07/02/roast-pig-over-rice-is-available-at-kar-won-and-hop-won/

a lot of people rave (myself included) rave about Carnegie John on 56th & 7th.

There are a number of "generic midtown deli" spots on 56th between 5th & 6th as well. Your best bet is going south of 57th since north of it really is a wasteland.

Lastly, I second Certe. They do great work and keep lunch interesting.

  4. tuscany on 55th between 5th and 6th is good. The northwest corner of midtown isn't very well represented here tho... hint hint

  5. Thank you all
I will keep your ideas in mind and try to explore the area.
