Half lunch cheap option / snack option? (Not fast food)

Hi everyone,

I hate spending $6+ on lunch every day in midtown east (50s & 3rd), so I try to bring my lunch as often as possible. The problem with this is that we have no microwaves at work (stupid fire regulations), so I'm limited to a sandwich, some chips, and fruit or yogurt (something along those lines).

The thing is, this isn't a lot of food. About an hour or two later, I'm hungry again- but I don't want to get a full-sized lunch; rather something small, salty (I crave savory, what can I say) and under $5. As of late, I've been defaulting to McDonald's *shudder* for a snack wrap or fries, but I want to try something else. If I were in Chinatown, I'd totally just get a charsiubao. I'm not- so any suggestions?

I probably can't help with your actual question, but I am curious about your lunch packing habits... you can totally bring food to work without a microwave that far surpasses a sandwich, chips, fruit/yogurt, that type of bag lunch! You didn't say you were bored of it, and maybe you aren't, but there's so many other ways to bring in a delicious lunch that will fill you up and keep you full for the rest of the work day!!!
The most obvious answer for keeping lunch hot would be Mr. Bento (check Amazon). It's not cheap but it's a great investment if you have a larger appetite.
Also you can bring lunches that don't require microwaving, which is what I do most of the time.

Sorry if that totally doesn't help at all, though I would suggest things like pretzels, dumplings, slice of pizza, those are all pretty cheap items that are savory.
