i cant say i would reccomend anything in this area. at least nothing that will satisfy a serious craving.

If you consider 31st and 2nd Midtown East (and I do), then TODARO BROTHERS is your place. If it's a serious enough craving, then it's worth a 25 minute walk (or 1 hour on the M15 bus).
-
if youre going to go there you may as well jus to to defonte's
-
Defontes for a hot sandwich: ABSOLUTELY, worth a trip from anywhere. But for a cold Italian hero, I would choose Todaro.
-
side note... thumbs up for the name "broccoli rob"
-
I might get pounded for this....
If your idea of an "authentic" is ham, salami, mortadella, maybe pepperoni, and provelone with lettuce tomato onions hot peppers and Oil&vinegar, then...
I actually like Toastie's. One of the biggest things for me is the meat, which I like sliced thin. If I were jonesing and had nothing but bodega's (aside from chains), toasties would do the trick for me.Nothing beats Fiore's in Hoboken.

I lived on 6th and adams for 6 yrs a while back--never once hit Fiore's I don't think. I always went to lisa's on 9th and Park.

Park Italian Gourmet, 47th between 5th and 6th. Great sandwiches, and both hot and cold foods. Place isn't fancy, only take cash, but food is pure and prices inexpensive. this place is a gem

Goats - that's funny, I used to live right by Lisa's! Lisa's is great, especially for the hot sandwiches. Their fresh mozz was really good too. Fiore's is one of those places that has very limited choices but excellent.

bah! to park italian.
-
So... I'm not going to check out Park Italian today?
-
+1 to Park Italian...VERY solid

Username--I'm going to have to make another pilgrimage. It's been well over a year since I've been back there to walk around. I usually hit up Benny Tudino's, b/c I love that place but I will also hit Fiore's. I'm really not sure why I never tried it considering it was a block from my house. I might have heard lisa's was "better" or "bigger" is my guess why...but it's been years since I lived there.
