Gluten Free in Midtown?

My wife was recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease and I'm looking for gluten free options in Midtown. I've discovered Lili's 57 and Cupcake Stop has three gluten free flavors one or two days a week. Does anyone else have recommendations? (In particular, an Indian restaurant with gluten free options would be appreciated as I understand the sauces often contain flour.) Thanks.

Babycakes for gluten-free cupcakes and baked goods but it's in the LES.

Actually the same people who own Lily & Loo also on Lily's 57 (on 7th Ave. and 57th) and have a full gluten free menu.

  7. Thanks to all. Graffiti looks excellent. We've had Lily's 57 and I (almost) cannot tell the difference between the gluten free and "conventional" items.

Bar Breton does not fall within Midtown Lunch price guidelines, but for a special occasion, the food is really great. Their galettes are gluten-free and everything else on the menu that is also gluten-free is clearly labeled as such.

Even though it's just outside the Midtown border, I'd recommend Mozzarelli's -- GF pizza & dessert place on 23rd Street between Broadway and Park Avenue. Great pizza varieties!

Bloom's deli on 40th and Lex has a gluten free menu.

There's also a blogger that focuses on NYC: http://glutenfreenyc.blogspot.com/

  11. Free Foods has good gluten free options, they have 2 midtown locations, one on 45th and one on 53rd - http://www.freefoodsnyc.com . Also, Hale & Hearty labels which of its soups are gluten free, you just have to ask to see the ingredients (they are on the back of each of the little cards labeling the soup).

As for Indian, not in Midtown, but Hampton Chutney makes dosas, all of which are gluten free. Also, Earthen Oven on the UWS (72nd) doesn't use flour in their sauces. It may also be helpful to specify to the waiter that your wife can eat lentil flour, just not wheat, rye, and barley. That may open up some options.

Ruby Foos also has a gluten free menu, and so do all the restaurants by Tour De France, some of which are in midtown - http://www.tourdefrancenyc.com/

  12. Touch of India (on 37th btw. 7+8th) told me that GF (and dairy-free, for me) would be no problem - just mention my "allergy" when I order. I didn't really interrogate them on it, but I did order there a couple times and had no problem. Bloom's Deli does have GF items but it's expensive and the food is okay. May be worth it just for the GF french fries though.

Hale & Hearty is my go-to lunch place - love their soups & many are GF, and they're all labeled as to dairy. I haven't had any problems eating there. I only order salad, though, if I can go there and look at the ingredient bins to see if other ingredients may have dropped in - if it's near the croutons, forget it. They do use clean utensils for every salad, though, which is nice. The soups are all covered, so not too much chance of contamination.
