Gentle warning about Kolache Mama

pigiron

If you get a combination of sweet and savory kolaches, ask for seperate bags. I wound up with sauerkraut on my Apple Pie kolache.

By the way, these kolaches may not be "authentic", but MAN are they delicious. 4 of these carb/fat bombs went slightly over $10, but it was also too much food. 3 is more than enough.

mixing savory and sweet is so good.

    i.e. salted caramel frozen custard

Salty and sweet can be great.

Sauerkraut and apple crumb, not so much.

I was eating sea salt crusted chocolate last night and can't get it out of my mind.

that sounds like a lot of salt for chocolate. of course i'm picturing it like it's armor or something

yea it's unfortunate when you're looking to bite into a nice dessert and it tastes like cabbage. i can sympathize.

sauerkraut on sweet apple = yuk. I can sympathize too. And I am still a lover of salty/sour and sweet.

    Thanks for the warning :-D

Mmmm sweet and savory. While sauerkraut and apple doesn't appeal to me, damn the rest of you. Now I want salt + caramel + chocolate.

Chocolate-covered bacon is yummy. I made my own at a brunch buffet that had a chocolate fountain. (I did not put the bacon in the fountain!) Sister thought I was nuts, then tried it and admitted it was good.

I had the reuben and lemon curd kolaches on Friday for dinner. Very nice of them to heat up the reuben for me. I started to devour it outside the store. Reuben was okay but nothing special. I enjoyed the sweet and tart lemon curd a lot more. I don't know what's so great about kolaches though? To me, these are just european versions of chinese buns. More expensive versions at 5.44 for 2, when I could eat like a fatty at any chinese bakery...even pricier ones like Tai Pan would get almost 4 buns/pastries instead of 2. Definitely worth a try but I'm not into them. Cheapskate factor and value-seeking comes first. I can understand the rent is more expensive but these are just trendy buns. If the taste was out of this world, then it's a different story...

I couldn't make it past two kolaches. They're huge!
