Fried Cheese Curds

Yvo

Anyone have ANY idea or possible suggestion where to find fried cheese curds in NYC or the general area? I had some at WTB SSS the other day for NYC FFF and I'm like, wow, where has this been all my life? Holy deliciousness!

They're often served at the A&W fast food chains (I'm not sure if they're served at ALL of them, however). It seems there's a few A&Ws out on Long Island. It's closer than Wisconsin anyway. The best curds I've had were at the Tillamook cheese factory on the Oregon coast.

Also, while of the non-fried variety, cheese curds are a major component of poutine, which is surprisingly ubiquitous around town.

Can anyone suggest a local poutine? I got addicted to it when I was in Toronto a year back.

I've never tried it, but because their fries are damn delicious, I can't see why the poutine would be bad - Pommes Frites on 2nd Ave & St. Mark's - they have excellent fries. The poutine serving is really large and I've seen other people getting it, but I usually go there post-drinking or pre-dinner, either way, not a good time to start eating something like poutine.

I'd also recommend the poutine at Pommes Frites.

I'd recommend looking for PF on 2nd ave, though.

You say that like I didn't say it was on 2nd Avenue *innocent look

SR and YVO, thanks for suggesting PF, I haven't been there for years (not close to office) but just minor detour on the train ride home.

  8. Pommes Frites has been our Canada Day poutine destination for the past few years--not fabulous but decent. They also have pretty good poutine at Sheep Station--an Australian place in Park Slope.

  9. Indus Express has paneer pakora. I know it's probably not exactly what you were thinking, but it is fried cheese curd!

The Inn LW 12 has poutine also but on the pricier side. http://www.theinnlw12.com/dinner.htm

For poutine, I'll second Rockluncher's recommendation of Sheep Station. As for The Inn LW12 and its pork-belly laden poutine, they are no more.

WHat? It closed down already? NooooOoooo. Goodbye to fat-ass pork and fries. Boo.

  13. Looks like Sheep Station is having a St. Jean Baptiste celebration tonight--THREE kinds of poutine!!! I'm in.
