They're often served at the A&W fast food chains (I'm not sure if they're served at ALL of them, however). It seems there's a few A&Ws out on Long Island. It's closer than Wisconsin anyway. The best curds I've had were at the Tillamook cheese factory on the Oregon coast.
Also, while of the non-fried variety, cheese curds are a major component of poutine, which is surprisingly ubiquitous around town.

Can anyone suggest a local poutine? I got addicted to it when I was in Toronto a year back.
-
I've never tried it, but because their fries are damn delicious, I can't see why the poutine would be bad - Pommes Frites on 2nd Ave & St. Mark's - they have excellent fries. The poutine serving is really large and I've seen other people getting it, but I usually go there post-drinking or pre-dinner, either way, not a good time to start eating something like poutine.
-
I'd also recommend the poutine at Pommes Frites.
-
I'd recommend looking for PF on 2nd ave, though.
-
You say that like I didn't say it was on 2nd Avenue *innocent look
-
SR and YVO, thanks for suggesting PF, I haven't been there for years (not close to office) but just minor detour on the train ride home.
-
Pommes Frites has been our Canada Day poutine destination for the past few years--not fabulous but decent. They also have pretty good poutine at Sheep Station--an Australian place in Park Slope.
-
Indus Express has paneer pakora. I know it's probably not exactly what you were thinking, but it is fried cheese curd!
-
The Inn LW 12 has poutine also but on the pricier side. http://www.theinnlw12.com/dinner.htm
-
For poutine, I'll second Rockluncher's recommendation of Sheep Station. As for The Inn LW12 and its pork-belly laden poutine, they are no more.
-
WHat? It closed down already? NooooOoooo. Goodbye to fat-ass pork and fries. Boo.
-
Looks like Sheep Station is having a St. Jean Baptiste celebration tonight--THREE kinds of poutine!!! I'm in.
-
@Rockluncher - looks like the Village Voice food blog took your recommendation:

Although it look one of the three versions has chicken and peas in it. I don't think I'd be down...

I just read this awkward nymag.com interview with the chef at Joe Doe, who seems a little on the surly side. This led me to revisit the place's website and it seems Fried Cheese Curds make an appearance on the menu: http://chefjoedoe.com/menu_appetizers.html
Anyone eaten here btw? The dishes SOUND good, anyway. I tried to go once for brunch with a friend and his girlfriend, she being a vegetarian. She was so repulsed by the heavy smell of smoke and meat she demanded we leave.

We sell fresh curds online and the batter to make fried cheese curds. It'll take 1 day Ground to get to NYC. We supply quite a few restaurants in NYC with our curds. Check out http://www.goldenagecheese.com/curds

I just had my first taste of Cheese Curds and Beer battered fried cheese curds this past week in Wisconsin, lets just say.. AWESOME.
-
I think this calls for a fried cheese curd party!!!
-
I'm in

There's a poutine place called T Poutine opening up in the LES at the end of July... http://www.tpoutine.com/
I just looked at their menu though, and there's no "green peppercorn" poutine, which is my personal fave.

Cheese-Curd-Palooza!
-
Awesome news about T Poutine! Thanks!!!
-
The menu on the T Poutine website is out of date! A new one will be posted this week. I had their fried curds at their opening party and they are amazing!

Anyone have ANY idea or possible suggestion where to find fried cheese curds in NYC or the general area? I had some at WTB SSS the other day for NYC FFF and I'm like, wow, where has this been all my life? Holy deliciousness!
