I am of the cheap under 10-15/Dollar lunch places too, so, you already have my Uzbeki Selection, now for some more:

Dim Sum: East Ocean Palace on QB and like 76th? Great Dim Sum, cheap, good service.

Pizza--- I like A&Js overall (Austin street and something past 71st)... Good Cheese thin crust. When I order from Ariana's as they are much faster even though the Pizza is better at A&Js

Chinese Take Out-- Peking Duck House. Yes, it's pricier then then Great Wall but the food is ever so much better

Piau Bello? EWWWWW NASTY DO NOT EAT...

Just Like Mothers--- Best place for brunch, plus the pierogies are killer. If you do get an omlette, ask for Kasha instead of toast

Thai--- I like both Thai Pot on QB and Thai Austin... It is kind of a tie. (Pun Intended) Yes, Bann Thai is Michelein rated but so what?

TGI Fridays on Austin? Service is AWFUL....

Finally, I will let you in on my very secret and very special place.

Dirty Pierre's: It looks like a Dive Bar, on 71st/Continental below Austin. 4 tables inside, 2-3 outside... What is the secret? One of the best burgers I have ever had, served on an English Muffin (the big ones) with hand cut/thin fries.. And on Sunday's they are $6.00 dollars... (Usually $11.00) AND, if that wasn't enough, on Tuesday's it is $24.00 all you can eat Mussels. Yes, you read that right. With this awesome crusty french bread. Also, the drinks are large and strong.... It does get a big biker crowd though, so ya know....

I love DP's! I don't usually go to bars for the game but my friend loves going there during football season! http://feistyfoodie.blogspot.com/2008/11/dirty-pierres-forest-hills.html

Thai Pot definitely - I just tried their duck salad last week and WHOA, that ish is TIGHT!!!

I prefer Nick's for pizza though it's a little pricier.

I'll have to check out your other suggestions - I haven't been in the 'hood lately on weekends so haven't been wandering around as much.

Oh, and Tako Sushi on Austin gave us terrible, terrible service, but I'm convinced the waiter was angry at me for no really good reason, because I watched him serve the other tables around us perfectly fine.

Decent Greek, lots of food, inexpensive - Corfu Grill on Austin. http://feistyfoodie.blogspot.com/2008/05/corfu-grill.html

http://feistyfoodie.blogspot.com/search/label/forest%20hills - always trying to expand my FH label :)

Thanks for the great list, Apikoros!

Yvo--- So right about Private Messaging!!!! Anyways, we must be very close to each other 'cause you are ALL over my stomping grounds... I am in the Parker Towers. Check out my reviews on yelp: (I am not sure if this will work!)http://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=fFzjMsSLBJOt0EwbW4s8Aw

OK--- So, are you, me, my wife and your BF meeting to go to Samarkand or Cheburechyna (http://www.cheburechnaya.com/) which I haven't tried but heard is great... Or... We REALLY need another couple for Dim Sum... East Ocean Palace.... You can get more food that way!!!

The falafel place right next to the LIRR steps is awesome for falafel or chicken kabob sandwiches.

Also like the grandma pie from the pizza joint next to the Midway.

dirty pierre's has erotic photo hunt!!!!!

  6. Jamie

    but besides that

    I love Pinang for Malaysian

Knish Knosh, for the obvious (and the bakery next to it)

    Cafe Arzu for Eastern European

Nicks for fancy pizza (and the bakery next to it)

Corfu can put together a nice meal

    Marthas cupcakes are pretty good

Cheborechnaya is a little far for my hour, but I do enjoy getting food there when I am in the area

I am sad that Munch closed :-(

but the best food related stop in Forest Hills... Cheese of the World <3 <3

@ Yvo, about what you said in the other thread- why are you scared of Arzu? I guess it does seem like everyone who eats there is family and it is definitely a dumpy place. But I believe in you, you can do it! The lagman is waiting for you.

  8. Zach Brooks

@fressagirl - oh no. you didn't just bring up nudie photo hunt! (that's what we call it...) that is like my wife and my favorite bar game. amazing.

it could be official now. you are the best Profiled Midtown Lunch'er of all time. (sorry everybody else.)

  9. Jamie

hahaaa wheeee life goal accomplished, thats all a little fressa wants to hear. Now if only I could get people to read my blog...

  10. Apikoros18

Fressa--- Post a link to the Blog! I sat for like 45 mins when I should have been working reading Yvo's so... Know one reads my Blog either, but that's cause it is 3 paragraphs of me whining per entry....

  11. Jamie

(see this is where that private messaging thing could be handy, bc now I just seem annoying and ruining the topic)

    apikoros-

    fressagirl.blogspot.com is me

I am planning on sitting down and doing some heavy posting tonight! I have many new posts up my sleeve that are long overdue.

  12. Yvo

Haha since it's "my" topic, please feel free to run away with the topic, I am one of those forum people that mods either hate or love because I blather on and on... but 1/2 the time it's off-topic.

Apikoros - I think I'll have to ease BF into Samarkand and Cheburechyna (which Avenue Food reviewed and said good things about)... he's a bit wary of ethnic foods and sometimes doesn't want to try. He's been bugging me that we should go to dim sum soon, and I keep reminding him that to go dim sum, we need more people..... so that is a possibility, although he sometimes thinks I'm CRAZY for meeting internet peoples. Hahaha. But yes, let's dim sum sometime soon! Make him stop bugging me!

Oh, I forgot - this is technically Rego Park but - Ben's Best on Queens Blvd & 63rd Drive has pretty good pastrami. I've only been twice so I haven't posted on it yet, but it's good and generously portioned for the prices, and slightly less oily/greasy than Knish Nosh for sandwiches. And Knish Nosh is freakin' expensive.

PS Erotic Photo Hunt is the awesome; we have to play together. lol

  13. talida

Technically Elmhurst, but David's Taiwanese on Broadway at St. James.
