Five Guys: A greasy, filthy, soggy mess for $11, and: An apology to Blarney Stone

boomshanka

Really, how do people eat this stuff? $11 for a cheeseburger and fries? And I don't care how many limp pounds of potatoes they give you - there was enough grease to completely eviscerate the paper bag during the 3 block walk.

Five Guys, you have no pride.

And Blarney Stone, I'll never walk past your sliders and onions rings for $5.50 ever again, even if you wouldn't give me a side of mayo that one time.

Ummm, I get the "little" burger and fries... I'm pretty sure that's not $11. And I can easily share the regular fries (since I've not yet gone to 5g alone). Admittedly, I've been to the one on Bleecker once, and then every other time (about 3-4 times afterwards) was the one in "Forest Hills" (Queens). I like it enough...

  2. Where are you getting the idea that a "combo" at Shake Shack is $7? 1. They don't have a "combo" 2. The Double Shack Burger alone is at least $7.

According to this recent Inc. magazine interview, Five Guys got a lot of pride. It may have been a bad day when you went.

Wisco: 1) You can order your own "combo" of a burger and fries; 2) A cheeseburger-plus-fries 'combo' (use your imagination here) is $7, and a shackburger-plus-fries is $7.50.

Yea, not everyone needs to eat a Double Shackburger or a regular 5Gs cheeseburger. Although I do prefer the two patties over a single patty. :P

  6. The staff at the 5Gs on 3rd Ave is lacking the pride that 5Gs strives for. Total trash in that place.

  7. I went to the Five Guys on 55th and it was pretty awful. The burger was overcooked, un-flavorful, and totally overpriced. My "Cajun" fries were undercooked and dusted lightly with a "Cajun" powder... The location was also filthy... I can get a delish shack burger and super tasty cheese fries at Shake Shack for cheaper.

I just can't wait to see what will happen to Five Guys when Bill's opens up in Rockefeller Center. I like Five Guys for the toppings, but I agree, the burgers could probably be better.

I also miss when Burger Joint's burger and fries used to be $7ish...memories...

Speaking of other burgers, has anyone tried the Tri Tip Grill burger?

I think the type of fries they make at 5G will always produce a little greasiness, but Shake Shack fries are frozen crap, I do prefer their burgers to 5G though.

I think the one on third can be bad at certain times. It seems when they are not around the lunch rush, they tend to screw up my order. I find myself going to Blarney Stone more simply because they get my order right and I can get a burger and sliders and fries for the price of one burger and fries at FGs.

I've never been disappointed by any 5G on the east coast.

  12. I agree that the service/attitude at the 3rd Ave location leaves MUCH to be desired. I went in there one night at 8:30 a few weeks ago, and the cashier barked "If you're going to order a burger, we are out of buns" at me before I made it halfway through the store. He seemed quite pleased with the situation.
