I would be interested in the same except I am far downtown. Please don't say "Terrace Fish & Chips"
-
Magpie cafe,Whitby North Yorkshire.

Have you been to Chicken House?
It's really close to you... it's not a proper English fish and chips, but they have fried fish (not cod but whiting). And they have french fries. (No vinegar though...)

One of these days I'm going to make my way to "A Salt and Battery" :
http://www.asaltandbattery.com/
Supposedly it's a proper fish and chip spot.

-
Rudy, be a love and explain to me what a chip butty is, please. Also, those are 5 USD, not GBP
-
OH MY GOD IT IS A FRENCH FRY SANDWICH. Hahahahahhahahaahahahaha how is it that the US is the fattest nation in the world? I guess we were birthed of a like-minded nation... bwahahahahahha

And yes, you are the children of the UK....but we still walk about...well apart from Susan Boyle.

I love A Salt & Battery. It's the best I've found on this side of the Atlantic. And you can walk down the street to Myers of Keswick & pick up some Walkers Chicken crisps. Mmm.
-
that whole chip butty just sent me down the wikipedia rabbit hole investigating British Sandwiches. Now I am obsessed with the Ploughman's Lunch

Again wandering out of Midtown, but if A Salt and Battery doesn't do it for you, there are at least two Chip Shops in Brooklyn. One in Park Slope on 5th Ave near the Gate, one on Atlantic a few storefronts down from Waterfront Ale House.
Yes, the cod and chips is $12 haddock is $12.75). It's quite good, though, and they have proper beer to boot.

@original poster, there's a bar, O'Farrell's on 33rd and 10th that has a decent fish and chips. Nothing spectacular, and not terribly cheap ($15?) but it is fishy vinegary goodness.
-
Chicken House has reasonably priced fried fish and fries. No malt vinegar to be had on site, but they do have lemon juice (sometimes fresh, sometimes packets), hot sauce and tartar sauce. A Salt & Battery it's most definitely not, but it will satisfy a minor F & C craving. You can also check out Houndstooth Pub on Eigth and 37th. ( I also work btw 37 & 38 on Eighth.)

Anyone know where I can get good fish and chips? I work on 38th and 8th but am willing to travel for fishy vinegary goodness.
