That's missing the point though... haha I'm going to sound like I'm parroting Zach but in this respect I totally agree with him insomuch it's not about comparing them with everywhere else, it's about comparing them to what's available in the immediate area. Personally, I'll hop on the train and go to Chinatown for better/cheaper banh mi, but some days when I don't have time like that or I just don't feel like using most of my lunch hour doing that, the cart does just fine.

I can attest to the ridiculously slow service in the beginning, but I've only had one really bad banh mi there. Other than that, I've never had a banh mi that was, as you described, "way too much Maggi" or "dried out goi cuon/any ingredient" - I've photographed every sandwich I've ever eaten there, too, so I can go back and look and say nope, none of them were AWFUL besides that one nasty 'meatball' sandwich.

Dunno... I think we just have different tastes or you have way higher standards than I do (based on other comments I've seen you make). *shrug

yep, I understand that part - which is why I made the comment on Baoguette. Now that they're in FiDi, I don't have to go to that cart for a Viet sammidge. :)

i'm gonna put up the new england clam chowder at zigolini's as go-to worthy. buttery, creamy, lots of clam, potatoes, bacon, fresh bread... $4 for a large 16 oz.

Ooh... sounds delicious on a day like today. Urban Lobster Shack's version is pretty solid, but $5 and I don't think it's 16 ounces. Thanks boomshanka!

I've told yvo already but it must be said Pad See Ew at Pongsri in Chinatown is my fav! MMM. and super cheap. $6 for a platter of broad savory noodles

Oh man, Pad See Ew is the one dish in all the world that I just keep coming back to. I'm not sure why, but it's practically the only thing I order at Thai restaurants. Everything else, I'm all about changing it up, but for some reason...

Anyway, I'ma have to check out Pongsri. Thanks, Monique!

Adding Harry's Italian to the list, in particular the $7 Meatball Parm hero.
