The food is fantastic especially the Sushi.

Yup I did the ML Duane Reade sushi challenge, nothing scary. The sandwiches come from nice local catering shops, like Eli's etc. but nothing special
Everything is sourced out by boring local delis or out of state factories that add a ton of preservatives. So food will never rot.

I got cough drops instead

Their chicken salad sandwich, on raisin nut bread is awesome. The pesto pasta salad is pretty good as well.

I visited the newly-renovated Duane Reade on 48th St. between 5th and 6th yesterday and to my surprise I found gourmet sandwiches, salads, sushi, and other food items in a refrigerated case near the door. There was also freshly baked bread in a case near the door.
Has anyone tried the Duane Reade food, and, if so, how was it?
I was so surprised to see food there, I forgot to pay attention to the prices. But, if you snagged a $5 off $15 purchase coupon that was being handed out nearby for the last few days, that may help defray costs a bit.
