There isn't a situation where you CAN'T have alcohol, however there are sometimes where you SHOULDN'T.
To answer your question, I don't know squat. I work in Midtown west. :P

Very True Cheese. The situation is usually number two.
So far Capital Grill is one option. -
Could always try Grand Central Oyster Bar.

How is the Michael Jordan steakhouse? I have wondered if it's worth it. Fancy steak can be bought anywhere.
Capital Grill sounds great though.

Capital Grill seems like it would be better then MJs.
I'm not familiar with the high scale places, so I wanted some input from someone who is. If the distance wasn't an issue, I would really love to eat at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant in NYC. -
Why not just say where you are? If Gordon Ramsay is far, does that mean low 40s? Depending on how you define it, Midtown East is not even walking distance from *itself*. Is there a price limit? (Even at company expense, there's usually a limit.)
Felidia and Alto are both good Italian places but might be far from your secret Midtown East lair. I've always wanted to try Hakubai in the Kitano Hotel. Also Sushi Yasuda.

Sakagura
Convivio -
1) Gordon Ramsay is on the 50s and west side. I'm almost by Capital Grill (42nd and 3rd) so probably walking distance.
2) I don't know if there is an established limit. Any place within reason is a very open ended statement (Capital Grill & Nannis were apparently within reason.)
I'll look at all of the suggestions listed so far. Thank you, and keep them coming.

Keens is Midtown east, right? I enjoyed the old school atmosphere. And mutton.
I've also done Yasuda for a work lunch. I heard Chef Yasuda might be leaving, but I can't imagine that will really change much.

Seconding Convivio and Yasuda.
Also adding Aburiya Kinnosuke and Le Cirque

+ for all of the replies.

Yea, Yasuda is amazing. His lunch price is well above ML price range (~$25 iirc), but it's a steal compared to the dinner prices. He is leaving for Japan early next year, but one of his sous chefs is taking over and they're saying that nothing should really change.

Yasuda (at sushi bar only, in front of chef yasuda preferable but great even if you can't get a reservation there)
Ben and Jacks or Capital Grille, Sparks or MJs. I'd go B&J's first, then MJs, Capital Grille and Sparks bringing up the rear)
Convivo
Nobu 57
Megu
Nothing would change based on alcohol or people, except for Yasuda. I'd only sit at the bar there which you really can't do with more than 2 people.

If you could have a lunch anywhere in Midtown East, or walking distance (expensed) where would it be?
Would your choice change if you were going with two people, or with a whole group?
Would your choice change if you couldn't have alcohol?
