Zach made a comment (http://midtownlunch.com/2009/11/16/how-to-become-the-buffet-master/) today in relation to three different posters requesting that DocChuck be banned, saying "Banning readers is a slippery slope, and I prefer not to do it."
I understand the slippery slope, but to be honest, I dont think anyone else is having fingers pointed at them (well, ok, except me when I was ripping into him each time he posted) and DocChuck has had fingers pointed at him for close to two years now. Said another way, there is no slope here - it's DcChuck, then me, and there is no one else on said slope, even the irritable Bossman or caustic McBagel.
It is true that a precedent is set, but it isn't like we vote or anything - it is all in Zach's hands as it always has been and always will be (err, till he sells MTL for a million bucks and retires at age 40)

Yeah.....as I have mentioned before.....at the Feedbag, they've taken the position that DocChuck and his multiple personalities are entertainment, in the same vein that The Jerry Springer Show was considered entertaining. Or to put it another way - a train wreck....and of course people stop to gawk at train wrecks, right? All bringing readership and attention to the Feedbag website.

Zach made another comment on the "buffet master" post indicating he is looking for a set of rules that would allow him to ban docchuck while retaining some other colorful posters here.
If some of you want to use this thread to work through a set of rules like that, please, be my guest. I fully realize in saying so that such a set of rules may well get me banned as well, for comments I have made in the past.
That said, I'll add that I don't think Zach really and truly needs a set of rules for this. He has always acted in the best interests of the website and it's readership as the sole owner and operator, and been a success by any measure doing so, so why not trust his gut on this particular item as well?
One more thing, and this is for Zach, have you considered a temporary ban accompanied with a warning?

I say live and let live....if you see his posts, ignore them if they offend you....I like to tease him personally. And usually find his responses funny and surprisingly non-threatening, regardless of what people say to him....

Well, like I said, on most blogs he'd have been banned long before now. Zach is generous to a fault in allowing him to stay as long as he has - and yes, I could say the same of myself based on past comments.

Problem is, there is a multiple personality disorder involved.
In any case, there are already at least 4 DocChuck logins on this site, some of which might well be idiotboy copycats, but Zach could choose to ban only the ones who give offense, account by account. The '09' one, whether he is a copycat or not, is from my point of view the number 1 offender.

i have been randomly googling him a lot recently (probably exactly what he is looking for and the reason for all of his bile) and it sounds like what we get on midtownlunch is nothing compared to the other horrible things he says. i don't care that docchuck hates new york, or thinks that we are all disgusting and dirty, or even when he gets into fights with people like Fred or Goats who can absolutely defend themselves. what bothers me is the horrible, racist, offensive screeds that he seems to eventually get to with all of his blog posts. these blogs are about food dude, post about food, not sexuality, race, your freaking phd, or whatever.

and can we chill out with the *obvious* fake-humble pretentiousness treading on that light-breeze tipping-point-thin brink of brown nosing being so everpresently employed? this thread is breeding hostility of the worst kind -- personal attacks on someone with an opinion -- and it is not productive for humanity.
the familiarity is unsettling to me and -- in a debate -- is a cheap card to be playing. and besides, who are you really trying to convince? sour in mood, taste, and appearance. you don't have to agree. you don't have to read. you certainly don't have to PROVOKE. and you can flesh out your mantras and propaganda all you want here but you have a choice. you can choose not to click submit. which is what i'm doing now.

Deanlo: I might have been annoyed, had I understood half of what you wrote. Ah well. Yes, I am still "on this" I have been for my entire existence here at ML, probably close to 2 years. No sense giving up now.
And it is easy to call it hate - I see the term 'hater' used all too frequently, and often inappropriately - but it isn't. I doubt all but a very select few posters here would be willing to meet up with DocChuck for lunch (or anything, for that matter), and it isn't because he is hated.

In the comments on a fairly recent MTL entry (http://midtownlunch.com/2009/10/23/midtown-links-the-chicken-pot-pie-edition/), Zach indicated he was considering banning me and DocChuck as he is "sick of the same back and forth every day"
I understand this concern, and promised in a subsequent comment that I would cease and desist; and I have kept that promise
I will confine my comments on DocChuck (& his many alternate login identities) here, and intend it to serve as a reference on the subject
Full disclosure:
1) I'd like to see DocChuck banned from this website, just as he is from most other well written food websites, like SE and OTB
2) I (like DocChuck) am not located in NYC, but I like to read about NYC, especially it's food scene. Also, this website is very enjoyable to read
