Smoke alarms going off for the first time, only to find that the alarm was inside a protective metal box and EXTREMELY loud. Police showed up shortly. Had to smash the box.

i made oreo truffles this weekend for a birthday party and wasted four bags of white chocolate chips because they just didnt want to melt properly.

Did you use Oreos, or did you just simulate the truffles to look like them? If the second, please share recipe.

i tried to teach someone how to make profiteroles at her place. wasn't familiar with her kitchen at all and her oven wasn't correctly calibrated. we ended up with tiny dinner rolls...
on the plus side, we also made chocolate covered bacon and it was slammin'

Oh god, where do I begin? I've messed up Bisquick biscuits. Rock hard muffins too. Hmm... I f*cked up box brownies a couple of months ago, and decided I seriously should just quit while I'm ahead... geez. I am a terrible baker... I also have made a handful of dishes, very "normal American family Sunday dinner" type stuff that for whatever reason, I didn't eat growing up (probably cuz my mom didn't like eating the particular dish), and totally blown it because I didn't know what it was supposed to taste like at the end so I kind of just... didn't do it right.
I just laugh it off when it happens and eat the discards anyway... ha

Uhmmmm... well... I'm a culinary school grad and I can't make rice to save my life. There's just something about it that makes me forget its on the stove. I tried to make some simple red rice Sunday and all i can say is that the top two thirds of it were pretty damn good... I'm still scraping the lower third out of the pan...
And this is why man created rice cookers for sad folk like me.

My attempt at homemade biscuits turned out to be hard crackers. Even creamy butter couldn't save them.

Oreo Truffles
1 package oreo cookies (divided… use cookie including the cream center)
1 8oz. package cream cheese (softened)
white chocolate bark1. Finely crush 7 cookies in a food processor or place them in a ziploc bag and crush into a fine consistency. Reserve for later.
2. Crush remaining cookies and stir in softened cream cheese. Use the back of a large spoon to help mash the two together.
3. Roll the mixture into 1″ balls and place on wax paper covered cookie sheet.
4. Melt chocolate as directed on the package and then dip balls into chocolate, tap off extra and set aside on wax paper covered cookie sheet to dry. You can sprinkle the tops with the 7 crushed cookies for decoration. You can also use dark or milk chocolate for the coating. -
Summer 2009 I had an 8 foot flame in my apartment when my sauce pan of oil caught fire. I won't deep fry snow covered frozen fries in a sauce pan anymore.

KC, that recipe sounds really good.
Chloe, the meal sounds like it would have been amazing. Don't sweat it. I'm still trying to perfect my homemade street meat. 10 tries and counting... -
thanks guys for your stories - they really have done the trick...going to attempt to make my own horseradish sauce tonight (from the root) so hopefully nothing goes terribly wrong...
@kcijones001: wow, thank you for the recipe; I'm going to attempt this weekend!
@Goats: OMG that is REDICULOUS! I would of freaked and screamed alot which wouldn't of put out the fire..what did you do?

Hey guys, so last night I made this beautifully delicate roasted red pepper cream sauce to go with some pan fried shrimp and fresh linguini I just bought for dinner. I was already tired from a long day of painting and house work and started to think of possible ways I could save some time. I thought, "hey, since I'm using fresh pasta, it won't need to cook long....what if I just cook it in the cream sauce?" So I went ahead and threw my fresh pasta in and you might guess what happend next - the pasta released all of the starches into the pasta and made a thick paste ready to grout tile! I was (and still am) so devestated....
To make me feel a little better, does anyone have any disaster cooking stories to cheer me up?
