Wo Hop is alright. Not bad but also nothing amazing. My friends actualyl dragged me there 2 birthdays ago for dinner. It was ok for food but great times with friends. My friend and I walked out of Yeah Shanghai. Their service was too damn slow. The place is nice looking but seemed like a touristy place to me. We were crazy hungry (plus 15-20 mins sitting down to order our food is unacceptable), couldn't wait on them any longer so we walked the hell out. If anything, I prefer Nice/New Green Bo across the street. Food is decent and even when it's packed the service is alright.
I like eating in hole in the wall places though. Whatever as long as the food is happening.I like the Congee Village also, it's less divey and food is reasonably priced. Good for group dining.

Too late but my two favorites are NY Noodletown for salt and pepper shrimp or squid and roast baby pig over rice and Super Taste for hand pulled spicy beef noodle soup, although its not quite a take the parents there kind of place. Unless they like hole in the wall type places with lots of chinese yelling going on. The soup and noodles are great though.

For Cantonese, my vote would be for Amazing 66. I slightly prefer Cantoon Garden, but their lighting and plastic bags on the tables is probably not what you're looking for with a dinner with your parents.
Joe's Shanghai is good for soup dumplings, but the rest of the menu leaves much to be desired. A better option is Shanghai Cafe. Dumpling skins are a bit thicker than Joe's, but the filling is a lot richer and tastier. And the rest of the menu is better than Joe's.
Firm no to those who suggested Wo Hop. It's terrible and only good if you're drunk at 2 AM.
Peking Duck has the nicest ambiance of all of the restaurants listed. It does Peking Duck well, but that's about it.
I haven't been to Yeah Shanghai Deluxe, but heard it's pretty good.

- Nice green bo is pretty good, not too adventerous, alittle touristy. they have good rice cakes and scallion pancakes.
- big wong: a major player in the hong kong/cantonese style food. can get touristy, but dosn't cater to tourists. Really good roast meats here, roast pork, duck. also makes great wonton noodles
- Amazing 66 has been mentioned, worth another nod.

Hey fellow lunch'ers, my parents are coming into town tonight and they're interested in going to Chinatown for dinner. I've never been down there for dinner, so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good spot for first timers? Thanks in advance!!
(I know it's not midtown nor is it lunch, but you all seem to know your stuff so figured it couldn't hurt to ask.)
