One of my all time favorite foods....Peking Duck. Haven't been in a couple of years but they do a real nice version....

Well, if you going to go real deal, the one the only Wo Hop is the way to go.The downstairs Wo Hop, not the upstairs one.

Second what Apikoros said - as an added bonus, thanks to Mr. Hops decorating choices, the basement Wo Hop is a very interesting place to take out-of-towners to.
Besides being cheap, it has some of the best noodles in town. If your family balks at the door just point at the Zagat's review.
And as long as you don't take your family there in the middle of the night, your fine. After 2 AM it turns into the culinary version of the bar scene in Star Wars.

Wo Hop? Really? No way!!!!! Wo Hop is ok, but damn....everyone and their mother goes to wo hop. My brother came in and went to Wo Hop a couple of weekends ago. Lame! Of all the places... Peking Duck House kicks Wo Hop's ass!

Thanks folks, I work for a japanese company and a couple people, one of whom is chinese, mentioned Joe's Shanghai. Any opinions there?
-
Yeah, been to Joe's Shanghai. Great Dumplings. It's a decent joint.

I stand by Wo Hop. It is NY Institution.
-
I suppose it depends on what you want. I LOVE peking duck...that is my favorite Chinatown food by far. Duck tacos!!!!!
-
I suggest the OP check out chowhound and their commentary on Wo Hop. Most would not suggest you go there, institution or not. The thing with taking first timers, especially your parents, to chinatown is that it is much more run-down than you might think. Some of my favorite places to eat are the hole-in-the-walls, but it is pretty intimidating. I personally like the following for first-timers:
Amazing 66
Yeah Shanghai Deluxe
Congee Village/Congee BoweryJoe's Shanghai is good but the wait is quite long and you get the same food at Yeah Shanghai Deluxe. I've never been to Peking Duck House but I hear their duck is quite good while everything else is mediocre, not a bad choice if you like Peking Duck.

Dubs is right, in that Peking Duck's non-peking duck food is just ok. It's good, but not the best you can get in Chinatown. Neither is Wo-Hop's in my opinion, but some people really like it apparently...
-
Umm... do your parents want the real experience of Chinatown or the touristy places? Because so far I haven't heard any non-touristy place's name dropped, except Amazing 66 (I don't know Yea Shanghai Deluxe, so not sure about that one).
-
Also, a lot of Chinatown restaurants are best for specialization. Do your parents want noodles? Rice? Shanghainese food? Cantonese food? Szechuan? ...?
-
If your parents can be skeeved out by hole in the wall type places, then try Golden Unicorn. I took some out of towners there and they loved it!

Hey fellow lunch'ers, my parents are coming into town tonight and they're interested in going to Chinatown for dinner. I've never been down there for dinner, so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good spot for first timers? Thanks in advance!!
(I know it's not midtown nor is it lunch, but you all seem to know your stuff so figured it couldn't hurt to ask.)
