Is Daily Soup on 43rd (betw Lex and 3rd) still open? If so, they usually have good soups and bread - very often will have chili as well.

The chili at Hale and Hearty is really fantastic, but there's no way you're getting anything other than a small for under $10. Why are they so freaking expensive?!?

Try Manhattan Chili Company in the Grand Central food court. Lots of varieties to choose from! There's also a platter that comes with rice, 2 toppings and two little cornbread muffins--still within the Midtown Lunch price range.

I second the Manhattan Chili Co in Grand Central. Their small size is enough to fill me up and comes with a mini muffin for abouy $6.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried Manhattan Chili Company and got the Texas Chain Gang. It definitely hit the spot.

The blisteringly cold weather has put me in the mood for chili. It's a bit warmer today, but I still have the craving.
Anyone know a place to get a good bowl of chili anywhere east of park in the 40s that won't push close to $10 for a bowl aka no hale and hearty?
