I'm in!!! No car but I volunteer to drive as much as needed. (And no, I'm not gonna tackle one by myself! Man, I think I'd die--happy, but dead nonetheless.)

I never had one but really want to try it. But I want to have my first in Texas.

What's the difference between a chicken fried steak and a country fried steak? Is it gravy?

i believe chicken fried means brownish pan gravy. and country fried means cream gravy.

the distinction isn't so apparent in NYC but the south knows the dealio.

you should try the one at IHOP for a reference point. it's very middle of the road but i love it because it's actual cubed steak.

I think at Cracker Barrel chicken fried steak is still served with country gravy... but I usually order chicken fried chicken so that might be an incorrect assumption on my part?

scratch that. ihop in queens doesnt use cubed steak :( just had some and it's not as good as the one i went to in florida... guess i should settle for one of those overpriced ones at mara's or some diner

chicken fried steak and country fried steak are actually the same thing, and i dont think gravy plays a factor. however i will say that everytime ive had chicken fried steak, it came with white gravy, and that includes the cafeterias in the greater dallas school system.

BTW, although last night's menu was at Shake Shack, Live Bait also serves up a very tasty chicken fried steak. Duke's isn't bad either.
