Well said, 3008 and 303. Magdy's was good but not amazing. Tri Tip is quite delicious and I go way too often.

There's a deli on 53rd halfway between 6th and 7th that does a cheesesteak special on Thursdays. It's around $6 and quite good. The fries there kinda suck but I'd say it's worth a try.

Goat's Papaya does a great cheesesteak! He's just rarely open for business.

Its never dawned on me to get it there, but check out this post on the cheesesteak from Kwik Meal.
Not typical but looks great, esp if you get it with the green hot sauce added to it (then again it also looks like it would pass through you in less than 10 minutes)

It's as generic a deli as you can get, but the Reliable Food Deli on 54th between Park and Madison makes a good cheesesteak (for $5.95) and some good fries too. It's not as good as real philly style, but pretty darn close (if only they had cheese wiz!).

@ribs I used to go there a lot before I discovered ML. A few times I found funky stuff in my sandwiches (ie bones, hard plastic, a screw!) so I stopped going. I'd compare them to a bodega with a griddle.

I work in Rock Center area too. We order from Shorty's all the time! Minimum order is only $10.
I love em.I agree that Magdy's cart is pretty darn good for the price.
Now I want to try all the suggestions here, because I love cheesesteaks!

Hey guys,
So I've been craving a good and tasty cheesesteak for some time; I live in Gramercy and am close enough to 99 Miles to Philly (which helps my dinner cravings), but I'm not close enough (even for delivery) for any of the well-known places.
Thus...
Does anyone have any recommendations for a good cheesesteak in the Midtown area?
