Yes, it was called Holidays and it was on 57th between 8th and 9th. It was absolutely authentic Jamaican food and it was excellent. She closed it and opened a pet shop (small dogs specifically) a few blocks down 9th Ave.
Miss that joint!

Thanks! All I remember is it was very small and they had a stereo system with a huge stack of Cd's behind the counter.
Speaking of 9th ave, there was also a fried fish place around that same time.

Just goes to show how you should never trust google completely. I remembered it as Holiday but then I tried to google it to confirm and came up with comfort food.

Good memory! I think you are thinking of a Korean place on 8th Ave around 55th. It was great and cheap! I remember a stand-alone store on the east side of 8th Ave from the mid-80's. Later it seemed to be the same set-up in the corner of a larger Korean market on the west side of 8th Ave. It closed just a few years ago and it is dearly missed.

Anybody have pictures of midtown lunch places in the 1980s? I've got a bunch of old pics of 42nd Street with some restaurants in there I think. How would I go about posting pics on here?

Theres a Midotwn lunch Flicker page that you can post them.

Just remembered there used to be this tiny Caribbean joint on 57th btw 7th &8th I think? This was well over 6 years ago. I only got to go there twice before it closed down. They had the best mac'n'cheese I've ever had! Anyone remember this place?
