yeah, a fish sandwich for $3.75?? Amazing deals to be found in this small cafe. I go here for breakfast and lunch. Too bad they got rid of Beard papa cream puffs. The only 'bad' thing i had from this place is the green tea shaved ice dessert cup. lacks flavor.
-
Last time I got the fish sandwich, it was overly dry and tartar sauce laden. Too much bread to fish ratio too.
-
I stay away from most of the sandwiches, except for the tuna fish and ham ones. I like the smaller slices of bread and they just taste better. ^^;;;;;;;
-
Hungry, really? I had it yesterday and it was pretty moist and flaky with good amount of sauce...in a messy way.
-
Yeah, I love fish sandwiches. And it just disappointed me. However, that has been the only disappointing thing I've had there.
If you like fish sandwiches, try Kim Aunt's Kitchen street cart. It trumps Cafe Zaiya's fish sandwich any day!

katsu kare is also awesome there despite proportion of rice to sauce being like 1:3. not as good as GO GO Curry but for midtown and for that price, it is awesome.
shaved ice was crap. bitter, bland, uninspired. took long to make too because they had to layer everything. i don't know if they still do it this way though, i went during opening week.

I had black sesame ice cream from Cafe Zaiya today. It was surprisingly good.

i love their $5 lunch special (meal + tea/water). i usually get their bento boxes or gyu/oyako don. their sandwiches get soggy from sitting out too long.
-
my problem is with the bentos - they sit there lukewarm or cold and contain a mix of products meant to be served warm and cold.
So if i nuke it, then i have to nuke it all. also, the bulgogi (not sure if that's what they called it but that's what it reminded me of) is often really tough and fatty.
i usually go to the one above the bookstore on 6th cause its closer, but i think i'd have the same problem with the main location.
-
yea i'm not too fond of the premade bowls because i've noticed that too, that there are some things i wouldn't want to eat warm but would have to if I microwaved it.
then again, it's one of those you-get-what-you-pay-for kinda deals. it's pretty tough to get a decent sit-down meal for under $6 these days.

If I had to pick my favorite place ever, it would definitely have to be Cafe Zaiya. I can honestly say I've never had a bad thing there. Now if only they'd open one up in my neighborhood T_T
