If I still had my SUV, I would totally think today is a great day to take a 90 minute road trip to Philly for CHEESESTEAKS!!!

  5. Steve

    ROAD TRIP!

    i'm down.

  6. Yvo

Nah, I've got a sporty lil 2 door now, not driving that to Philly in a blizzard, I'm not stupid. No JIM'S for me... :(

    (Pat's & Geno's = all hype!)

geno's is also racist, according to the bus driver i chatted with when i was down there. "they tell you speak english. racists."

  8. CheeeeEEEEse

    Wouldn't that be "linguist".

You speak english, whats the big deal?

  9. stevenp

It's all about Tony Luke's. But I'll probably do another HH today, at 1849.

yes! i'd like to try the A grade wings in company.

dillcheese, i was in no position to correct a bus driver on a rant.

It's not English. Language as a whole is just too limited. He might not have used the right word but obviously the sentiment was conveyed. There is no word that can adequately express "over hyped cheese steak purveyor who makes me the bus driver slightly annoyed because of his bias against the lack of proper enunciation amongst his patrons when employing the word 'with'"

yes both places were all hype. and really far out of the way. I didn't look hard but I don't recall seeing any offices around there.

what do people in philly eat for lunch besides cheesesteaks and viet sammies?

  11. Yvo

Oh good grief! Yes I'd like to try Tony Luke's but haven't been yet.

And it's incredibly racist when people tell me to speak English, even though yes, I do speak English - better than about 90% of the people in America, natch - because they are basing that statement entirely upon my looks. Grrr

Geno's & Pat's are definitely all hype! Nothing special about either place when I tried them and they were in the middle of nowhere. I might as well order in Chinese since I don't need to buy/eat their cheesesteaks.

My favorite in Philly is Jim's Steaks on South St, despite the long lines and touristy feel. Steve's Prince of Steaks was also pretty good. I haven't been to Tony Luke's in Philly. I have gone to the one on 9th Ave. near Times Sq. before they changed the name and it was average (It's now a Shorty's.) Carl's is okay too.

I can't wait to go back to Philly. In the meantime, Gourmet 53's cheesesteak will have to do for lunch during the work-week.

There's no chance that a cheesesteak anywhere outside of Philly will be as good. It's all about the bread. Those freshly baked Amaroso rolls are what make it!
