um, is there a biriyani cart down here, or is this a ref to 46th/6th?
and sorry, no recs on street meat here; i've had xpl @ corner of w b'way/barclay. it's just ok.

there is a Biriyani Cart down here, it was even reviewed a few days ago. and the name of the halal cart I meant was Zak/Mustafa's, which was also reviewed.

I still love Adel's at 180 Maiden. I think it's even better than 53rd & 6th.

City Hall Area Best Street Meat Italian Sausage by an Italian - Its a wagon on the corner of Park Place and Broadway right outside Duane Reade and the 2-3 Subway. I get the italian sausage on a Pita with everything, hot sauce (yum) white sauce (tzaiki) BBQ sauce (prob Kraft) lettuce tomato onions - need a really BIG napkin for this one. His name is Jack and calls himself the Hot Dog King. Hamburgers are fresh made, chicken over rice, chicken kebobs, hot dogs, etc.... Is only there on pleasant days certainly worth waiting for.

will have to try biryani house cart when i can get out of wfc. thx for pointing out the review; somehow overlooked it.

For standard street meat, my favorite is the Halal Fast Food cart on the west side of Greenwich just south of Murray. For more interesting, the chicken stew and beef stew at the Eritrean-ish cart is great: http://midtownlunch.com/downtown-nyc/2010/02/01/a-little-piece-of-eritrea-near-city-hall/

Well if you didn't like Zaks, the other logical choice is Adell's on Maiden lane way down by the water.
The cab drivers hve their own drive-up window! Get the spicy rice. I don't think you will be complaining about the weakness of the hot sauce here -
the last couple of times i've walked by w b'way & barclay, the xpl signage has been resting on the building across from the cart which is now termed alan's falafel. any insights?

I actually stumbled upon the XPL cart while looking for Adell's, so I just ate there. Unfortunately, both are way too far for me for a normal lunch.
I forgot about that Eritrea truck, I'll have to check that out...

Just tried gyro over rice at the Gyro Truck (formerly the Frito Lay truck). The veggies were the best I've had from a cart since it included slices of carrots, bell peppers, etc., so other, real, veggies besides lettuce. They shaved on tons of gyro over the rice, with, yes, a huge helping of white sauce. The hot sauce was decently spicy. Overall, I'd go back there again, but I'd definitely order the chicken/gyro combo as the gyro by itself is too salty.

I really love(d) Michael's on Wall and South Street. Was reviewed on here somewhere, but anyway, they use real chunks of lamb for the lamb over rice, not gyro meat.
-
! Real lamb meat? Now THAT is something I can get behind. Too bad I work on the other side of the area

Venture down to the home made halal cart on Beaver and Broadway...his platters have a much different kick than others in the area.

Yes, there have been a few posts on street meat, but really, where is the best street meat in FiDi? I tried the XPL cart last week based on this site and was totally disappointed. Very weak hot sauce, not very flavorful at all.
I've had the chicken biriyani from the Biriyani Cart (meh) and the halal cart in the same plaza that has the longest line (forgettable). I can't sacrifice too many more calories to find a good chicken and/or lamb over rice.
On a strange note, I had the best chicken and lamb over rice ever at this random cart on the corner of 14th and 3rd.
