Best jury duty lunches?

Chris Seamens

I want to do a bit more exploration around the court houses for those who are stuck stranded downtown for jury duty. Where have you eaten when on jury duty in the past? Any gems that we should all know about? What are your choices for best spots to eat around Worth and Centre streets?

Probably too late to post this but when I did jury duty I had Japanese at Mikata. Nha Trang or Thai son are good places for Viet food too. It's close to Chinatown so there's plenty to explore!

Its sorta expensive and not really a Midtown Lunch, but The Peking Duck House is just a fantastic Chinese restaurant. They only do Peking Duck for 2 or more and its worth it if you can share with someone. But the other stuff on the menu is good. Never had a bad meal there (of the 7 or 8 times I have been).

Sau Voi for a quick cheap tasty Vietnamese sandwich and Vietnamese coffee (at Lafayette and Walker) and I much prefer Pho Viet Huong, on Mulberry north of Baxter, for Vietnamese food. The bakery next to it has good egg custard tarts.

  4. Dim Sum Go Go on Chatham Square. Pretty standard stuff but it's very good. Their pumpkin cake is awesome. and the ultra pink vegetarian dumpling. mmmmmmm.

Go to the downstairs deli at the 60 Center St courthouse and order a toasted corn muffin with butter. So much butter and unbelievably good.

my old stomping grounds! At the corner of baxter and bayard is the most exceptional Pongsri of the city. I usually only go there for thai iced tea though.

if you walk down bayard and make a right on mulberry, you have the shanghai restaurant on the corner for some xiao long bao. If you walk past the parking spot, there's my friend's beef jerky joint (ping's/jung's dried beef) and a few doors down from there is tasty dumpling, which makes the standard potstickers, and scallion pancake sandwiches.

If instead, you stay on bayard, heading toward mott street, you will pass by Bo Ky, which is known for its duck dishes and noodle soups.

If you walk against traffic along baxter for three blocks and make a right on hester, you get the slightly saltier brick and mortar version of nyc cravings (taiwanese chicken/porkchop over rice with pork sauce and pickled mustard greens).

judging from the comments, apparently asian cuisine is the only cuisine available in the entire area.

    expand your horizons people...
