Best Food Ever on TLC

Steve

Anyone watch this last night? Looks like they do a top 10 list of different foods each episode. Narrated by John Goodman.

Last night's episode was Sandwiches and Ma Peche's Bahn Mi got the nod as one of the ten best in the country. There was also a little face time with Tien Ho.

I haven't had it myself, but some of you people had it and liked it. Enough so that it is one of the best in the country?

Am I reading this right? Someone said Ma Peche's banh mi was one of the best in the country? Were the people who composed the list on crack? I imagine it's fine enough as a sandwich, but as banh mi, it's a joke.

This comp is not cooperating but there was a Battle of the Banh Mi post on ML (and on FF) that shows exactly where Ma Peche stands.

Hahah, I DVR-ed both those shows. But with all the Top 10 lists and shows done already, I think new shows are trying to be different. AKA, list new places. I mean, can they really beat places that have been in business for generations? Come on!

seriously! didn't it lose in the ML banh mi challenge?!?

  5. Mamacita

It's not technically a traditional banh mi, and never claimed to be.

on the show they say banh mi can be made with a variety of ingredients. the staple being the baguette and fresh veggies(cilantro, daikon, etc.)

i'm *really* not trying to sound snarky here since I agree that they're wrong about Ma Peche's pork banh mi being one of the best (despite what Miche had to say about it) but banh mi is technically an umbrella term for "bread" that is also used as an umbrella term for any kind of "sandwich." there are no 'traditional' ingredients in a banh mi because there is no such thing as a traditional banh mi...

Gladly. Every group of foodies needs one soul begotten from a third world country. You know, places where food actually matters.

The best in the country? What are they smoking?
It's okay for a fancy pork sandwich but certainly not the best.

There are a lotta Asian guys in ML, Steve - token Smithers.
