ok, so more added to the "tried" list. I have tried...
Starbucks - too bitter, but convenient
Dunkin - good mainstream general party pleaser
Dean and Deluca - house blend pretty good - great price at happy hour
Au Bon Pain - average
Cucina - average- great price in afternoon
Wichcraft - average to good. Great price at happy hour.
Pret - average. They gave me a free cup for some reason.
Oren - wow. Great.
Joe - FABULOUS.
Zibettos - good, but pretentious
Piccolo - coffee grinds at bottom of mug. Yuck.
Ernest Klein - Illy coffe. Good.
Le Pain Quotidien - WOW! GREAT!
Macciato - averageI got drip coffee at each.
I usually drink the pod coffee or morning coffee service at work, but occasionally treat myself to try out different places. I look forward to trying all of your suggestions listed here. Thanks again everyone. -
great post Sue, keep'em coming !
I used to go to Blue Dog cafe on 56th btw 6/7th. But it was very hit and miss. Did you ever hear of them?
-
Zibetto's for sure!! makes me feel like i am in a small italian cafe - on 6th between 56th and 57th. but hands down - best cappucino

My favorite cup of coffee by far is Jittery Joe's. I love french press coffee and they french press everything except their iced coffee, which they cold brew. This is still one of midtown's best kept secrets, there's rarely a line, they really care about their coffee and the staff is great too.
For espresso I like Joe or Macchiato. For my once-a-summer calorie splurge on an icy "coffee" drink, it is hard to beat a Tim Horton's Iced Capp!

Joe's is still my favorite for coffee. I been ordering their single origin on frequent mornings now. Good capps too.
Better than Stumptown IMO. Financier's regular coffee is good too.Starbucks stinks for regular coffee. Dunkin' Donuts is alright and so is Tim Horton's!
For Seattle people, there is Peet's coffee here. ING Cafe serves it!! 968 3rd Avenue at 58th Street
It's inexpensive too. Better than Starbucks for sure. -
wellerfan..
Blue Dog! Yes! I read about them somewhere...MUST TRY! Thanks for jogging my memory!

By far the best coffee I've come across is at Macaroon. They french press all their coffee.
-
Macaron (one "O", but I'm just being particular here) coffee is great. I've mentioned how great the coffee is at Culture before...but I've found a new place that serves up an amazing Americano. Lucid Cafe. It's on 38th and Lex, and has the nicest staff!
-
Thanks Chris. I'm heading over to MacarOn for my morning fix now.

Stumptown on 29th St in Manhattan.
Southside on 6th Ave in Brooklyn. They serve Intelligentsia coffee.
Café Pedlar on Court St. in Brooklyn is QUITE good too.

Best coffee in Midtown?
I was in Seattle in December, and visited tremendously good coffee shops every day. Fantastic coffe, beautiful coffee art, casual atmosphere to sit around and read a book. Is there even anything like that in Manhattan?
Besides that, how about a great cup of joe?
I've tried:
Starbucks - too bitter
Dunkin - good mainstream general party pleaser
Dean and Deluca - house blend pretty good - great price at happy hour
Au Bon Pain - average
Cucina - ok - great price in afternoon
Any suggestions?
