In my hood there's
Fika, 58th btw 6th & 5thI'd say Zibettos but they dont serve drip brew.
I'm curious about Bouchon, Finacier, and all those fancy bakery shop's coffee.
Out of your list, I'd go for Dean & Deluca first and Dunkin 2nd place. ABP is shit. Starbucks is aaight.

I like the Juan Valdez Cafe on 57th btw Lex and 3rd. Not as upscale as Wellerfan's suggestion, but comfy and usually not crowded. I actually haven't tried their drip, but always get their iced when I go....I believe that it is cold-brewed which makes it very smooth.

i had finacier iced coffee once and it was one of the worst coffee i ever had...but it was iced coffee so their regular coffee may be different...but i rarely see people drinking their coffee so it must not be so good.

agree on Financier, terrible coffee.
When I'm not lazy, I walk the few blocks in the afternoon and to Joe in Grand Central Lex corridor. Sadly, i'm more lazy than not, so usually wind up choking down starbucks

Culture Espresso Bar at 38th and 6th ave is pretty amazing. It's the best option for a Garment District-er like myself. Very good stuff. If you're closer to Grand Central, I'm also a Joe fan.

i think it depends on what kind of coffee you like. i hate strong coffee, so i dont do something along the starbucks line. i do, love junior's coffee.

Culture and Zibettos -- big ups. The JoyTruck serves Stumpton, the best in the U.S. The worst is Tim Hortons and that Green Mountain crap.
-
Jittery Joes on 45th between Lex and 3rd. Athens, GA based shop, this is there only location in NYC. Weird location, but housed within LIM College
-
JJ is between 2nd and 3rd, sorry
-
Oh, I keep forgetting the slightly out of bounds Empire Coffee on 9th & 41st. If you're coming or going to Port Authority its worth walking down the block for, IMO.
-
Joe the Art of Coffee in Grand Central.
-
Joes and Culture Espresso Bar are the only places I get coffee in midtown. Joes also carries doughnut plant doughnuts!

joe, why don't you open in the mid 30s??? my midtown is the ~30s. culture's been mentioned. additionally, you can get colombe at cafe M on 32nd (btwn 5th & madison) or for a real treat, stumptown in the ace hotel (29th & broadway). 2nd tier – there are 2 ok 'wichcraft kiosks around macy's.

Best coffee in Midtown?
I was in Seattle in December, and visited tremendously good coffee shops every day. Fantastic coffe, beautiful coffee art, casual atmosphere to sit around and read a book. Is there even anything like that in Manhattan?
Besides that, how about a great cup of joe?
I've tried:
Starbucks - too bitter
Dunkin - good mainstream general party pleaser
Dean and Deluca - house blend pretty good - great price at happy hour
Au Bon Pain - average
Cucina - ok - great price in afternoon
Any suggestions?
