Hahahahaha...... uh, I never had a banh mi except from the cart... I should be ashamed of myself too but oh well.
I believe Zach has a bunch of posts... some place called Baoguette or something Boi to Go... -
I got spoiled eating some very amazing Banh Mi in Boston, for $2.50. Not sure if i can muster up the $8.
-
For reference's sake... http://feistyfoodie.blogspot.com/2009/06/banh-mi-cart-update.html
that's the post Apikoros is talking about. -
BenBen has it right. There are several places on Dorchester ave around Savin Hill (just south of Boston proper) that sell awesome banh mis for under $3. The bread is perfect-crusty, the fillings are tangy and crisp, and it is amazing. New Yorkers shell out $8 for a trendier but inferior product at places like Baoguette.
-
Whoa, Steven, ease up there, that's kind of painting all New Yorkers with a broad brush, considering plenty of us buy banh mi in Chinatown for $3. :P
-
Yea, what the f' on the trendier but inferior product...when boston won't win any more sports championships unless they change things up...lol.
I don't shell out no $8 for banh mi. I eat in chinatown for a reasonable price.
-
Yvo--yeah, you're right. I am thinking too midtown-ish (this being ML and all). Although even in Chinatown, there seems to be a lack of great Vietnamese food. (Why?) But they do have appropriately-priced and decent banh mi there.
-
Anyone have a good go-to chinatown spot for Banh Mi ?
-
@BenBen, I know some people aren't big fans of this place but it's my personal Chinatown favorite.

I really like Banh Mi Saigon on Mott St. too like El Dub. Their banh mi is awesome!! Only 3.75 for their delicious pork one and they can make it spicy.
-
@TC, Yeah, I'm a big fan of BMS on Mott, they're not afraid to make it spicy without even asking! One of the knocks I hear people say about BMS is the roll is not a skinny torpedo shaped traditional baguette but I kind of like the roll they use, its like the size of a deflated souvenir football and for under five bucks, how can you go wrong!

I am so gonna hit this place up this weekend.
-
Downtown Lunch did a banh mi battle royale a year ago... with pictures... it's on here somewhere, and includes bms
