Are lunch carts clean????

I've seen news stories on where these carts go at night - roaches, rats, you name it. I'm all for good, cheap eats, but I have a problem thinking about what's been sleeping in the cart at night....anyone have any info/experiences?

um, is this a serious question? On this site? if you are concerned, go Ask Asa or something.

  2. Well, ESNY, I'm new to the site and thought this would be a good place to ask, since everyone here seems pretty up on NYC carts. Sorry to have bothered you.

A puma and 3 mice sleep in my favorite cart at night it gives my lunch a pummery mousey taste which I love.

Bonnieaq, just try not to think about it.

Stick to carts where there are long lines. Long lines mean people keep going back, and people keep going back because they aren't getting sick.

Whatever condition they're in overnight, what matters is they're usually pressurewashed and steamcleaned before heading out for service. You can't really hide vermin droppings for too long without being obvious. A cart offers an enourmous amount of space for creepy crawlies to hide, and *live*. If a cart had problems, you can be sure you'd see not only the droppings, but live vermin as well.

  6. Actually, if I see a cart with a rug on the ground pointed towards Mecca, I figure it's gotta be on the holy side of cleanliness.
