Any "must try" places for Midtown Lunch?

Chris H.

My normal lunch spots are usually limited to FiDi and (ugh) Jersey City, but I have a rare opportunity to grab lunch in Midtown today.

In everyone's opinion, what is the one 'must try' place for someone who hasn't lunched in Midtown for months.

Genre of food can be anything, but i'd prefer something west of 5th ave. Sit-down type meal is a plus as well.

(Regardless, i'm taking a cruise by 50th & 6th to see if the Happy Well Being Cart magically pops up)

If I weren't in Midtown for a while and I had an oppurtunity to lunch here, either the Kati Rolls from Biryani Cart, or anything from the Jamaican Dutchy would be me must-have's.

I agree on both. Kati Rolls and Chicken Biryani from Biryani cart are must have before you die foods. Jamaican Dutchy is excellent but, i went last week and it took about 35 min. to get my food!! Well worth it, but damn. Also if you like tamales try The Tamale Lady outside the Mexican Embassy, 27 E. 39th St. (btw. Mad+Park).

Hallo Berlin German Food Cart on 54th and 5th. God I love that place.

Ended up making two stops (had a lunch partner in tow); the Jamaican Dutchy cart, and the 53rd & 6th halal cart (the real one on the East side of the street).

The jerk chicken from Jamaican Dutchy was good, but wasn't as good as Veronica's Kitchen in FiDi. I also wish I had a better variety of options of veggie sides like collard greens or provisions. I think Veronica's is overall a superior cart.

53rd and 6th halal was great as usual, but you need to be drunk to truly enjoy the stuff. It was entertaining to hear comments from tourists as they walked by. Makes me miss working in midtown.

you hit up 2 of the places i would suggest. in fact, a friend, was working in midtown this week, and this is where we took him.

    monday: NYC Cravings (45th & 6th)
    tuesday: 6th & 53rd Halal Guys
wednesday: Wafels & Dinges AND the Soondubu from Cafe duke (yea, we splurged this day)
    thursday: Jamaican Dutchy
friday: ordered Wah Mei from Chinatown (had to check it out cuz NYC Cravings is going up to $7).

overall, it was a good week =)
