Any good quick options by the 30th St/Market train Station?

I'll be transferring here and was wondering if there were any good quick eats close by. (It'll be on a Saturday too.) Thx.

Dude, for future reference (assuming you went this past weekend), Slainte is the bar of choice there (corner of 30th and Market). That's where I pass the time waiting for my ride. Good beers on tap, there. Jamie, I'd expect you to know better than to recommend the bar in the station.

I was there Friday, and I saw a cheesesteak cart across the intersection at the NW corner. Not sure if that is a regular.

I did pass thru and around the station, but my timing was off. Stayed outside of town Saturday. Saw both the Slainte bar and the one inside the station (which did have tasty beers on tap, but wasn't open Saturday am).

I did see no less than THREE food trucks on 30th between Market and Chestnut, in front of where the Bolt buses stop. One was Chinese and two were Caribbean/Jamaican. (One sign included oxtail, etc.) Alas, they were not open yet when I was there. But I'm surprised nobody mentioned this truck area half a block from the station.

Also, there were 2-3 large buffet food options inside the station itself, which looked pretty good. For the record, I played it safe and hit up Wawa for a large steak and cheese sub with egg (it was morning) before heading to the station. I swear, if Wawa came to NYC it would immediately put over half the bodegas out of business. Their food is awesome! $5.50 for a fresh, big-ass, tasty sub made to order with condiments of choice. (Their subs also make Subway subs seem like dog food by comparison--not that I would torture a dog by feeding him one!)

@ sireatsalot- to defend my honor I will list some of the breweries that 30th st Bar (Bridgewater's) carries: Yards, Dogfish, Flying Fish, Abita, and Chimay- just to name a few. You can't hate on the selection and the convenience.

I didn't question the selection, but I am assuming a captive audience mark-up. My pint of Noble Pils at Slainte was about $4.75. How's that compare?

  5. Re: mayo on cheesesteaks. The only locals I see ordering cheesesteaks this way are black. If you're white and ordering mayo, you're a Midwestern tourist.

I must say I tried it once, by mistake - the vendor asked me and I was half-listening and said yes on reflex - and it made the roll like GLUE. Yuck!

Mary, your observation is correct. I tried it that way twice... and actually enjoyed how creamy the mix of meat grease, cheese, and mayo got.
