I hit this haven of turkish meats last night for my birthday, but I am posting b/c they actually have a lunch special--10.95 for an appetizer plus an entre! I know it's .95 over (w/o tax if you get takeout) and it's slightly out of bounds, but their grilled meats were pretty amazing! Great falafal and pickled hot salad as well...and all items were reasonably priced. I actually got the mixed grill for dinner $21, with a falafal and hot pickled salad appetizer. All were pretty amazing! I have leftovers, which I am NOT sharing with Max, my pooch.I think my g/f may be gracious enough to give me her leftovers as well--but I'm not banking on it yet. I'd totally reccomend this place--reasonably cheap (especially the lunch specials) and darn good. Service can be a little slow but I didn't mind

Does anyone know where I can get khanom chun in New York? It's a Thai dessert, nine layers of delicious coconutty jelly like dessert...have been craving it for a long time. I think I bought some from Sanir/Sanur a while back but it didn't quite hit the spot. It looks like this: http://www.flixya.com/photo/374980/Khanom_Chun_-_layered_dessert

I wanted halal today, saw the line at XPL and then decided to go to Jerk Pan across the street instead, on 48th and Park. Why wait on line for something I had plenty of times and not even tried the Jamaican cart in my neck of the woods yet? The line moved fairly smoothly. It took about 2-3 minutes per person.

The rice & beans was fairly flavorful. The steamed vegetables are so-what standard - cabbage with carrots, corn, and peas - frozen veg. medley most likely. My definite complaint is their chicken serving! I ordered a small and got barely 2 pieces? What's going on here? I had a drumstick chopped in half and barely a thigh. All this for $8? The only pluses were their tasty rice and not getting so full that I go into a coma.

POOR imitation of the Dutchy...

I just went to the map and apparently, nothing good is near Broadhurst theater (44th btw 7th and 8th) unless Times Square Hot Bagel is amazing. Any suggestions? Pre or post theater dining... Hamlet is 3 hours long, so I'm hoping to grab a nibble at least beforehand. Thanks for any suggestions.

In the comments on a fairly recent MTL entry (http://midtownlunch.com/2009/10/23/midtown-links-the-chicken-pot-pie-edition/), Zach indicated he was considering banning me and DocChuck as he is "sick of the same back and forth every day"

I understand this concern, and promised in a subsequent comment that I would cease and desist; and I have kept that promise

I will confine my comments on DocChuck (& his many alternate login identities) here, and intend it to serve as a reference on the subject

Full disclosure:
1) I'd like to see DocChuck banned from this website, just as he is from most other well written food websites, like SE and OTB
2) I (like DocChuck) am not located in NYC, but I like to read about NYC, especially it's food scene. Also, this website is very enjoyable to read

So I figure this place would be the best source to ask this since I am sure some experienced street meat eaters would surely have the answer. So I am about to eat my street meat with all the ready precautions at my desk. Tarp-like layer of napkins? Check. Napkin bib? Check. Tucked tie in shirt? Check. BIG pile of napkins at the ready? Check. So I dive right in. I am trying to be careful and thoroughly enjoying my meal. And then, stuff happens. Smelly greasy stuff that makes street meat so f'ing good. And it's on all the places where my napkin bib is not. What's worse is that I am without the emergency office shirt or a suit jacket which I would undoubtedly use to hide my plebeian culinary shame. So with the office supplies and kitchen resources, how can I get rid of these stains?
