I'll second Energy Kitchen. Their wraps and combos are full meals and pretty tasty. Kinda like a cheaper, better version of Pump that I'll actually eat.

And dubs, kwik meal is NOT healthy!!! Maybe if you leave out the sauces, the rice, and the meat....

Along the lines of Pump I think, but Energy Kitchen (41st and 2nd) is quite good IMO. It's a little pricey at around $11 for a combo (burger and 2 sides), but when I've eaten there, I've been full enough that dinner is minimal. Kool Bloo on 2nd and 39th also has some healthy-ish options on the menu (also pretty expensive though).

For healthy food...

I also go to Dishes when I'm in the splurge-for-healthy-food mood.

Cavonberry is also expensive like Dishes, and healthy.

Sometimes I go to Cucina in the MetLife building.

Hale and Hearty when I want soup. Their salads are yummy, too.

Otherwise, it's sushi or a big bowl of fruit from the Grand Central market...

Ooh, Oms/b for Japanese rice balls, somewhat healthy...

I tend to go towards Pret when I want some healthy food. I know they're becoming ubiquitous, and a big chain, but the food tends to be tasty, healthy, and fresh.

Pump, yikes, I always wonder how they stay in business selling disgusting food. I rather eat one fried chicken over a large salad.

Not to be picky, but I'm not really looking to have food that's usually unhealthy but tasty, and then take out the flavor to make it healthy. Crisp and Dishes make healthy flavorful stuff and Pump ain't bad (although they put health waayyy ahead of flavor). Generic buffets are always options for just about anything - that's why they're generic buffets.

Sandra - yeah pump is, and not particularly tasty either (but filling, and with good low-glycemic carbs).

I'm not even sure how to gauge low salt other than preparing stuff on your own. Unfortunately most places oversalt things so that they taste better. I'm pretty sure Pump was low in salt though :)

Again, perhaps the generic midtown buffet is an option, if they have roasted meats. I'd assume since the salt would only be on the outside. Steamed chinese food with the sauce on the side would be another option.

Pump is good, but SOOOO overpriced. Talk about taking advantage of people who are trying to be healthy.

Here's a tough one - what are your midtown lunch options if you're trying to cut back on salt? This pretty much rules out all fast food, ethnic food, cart food, etc. Are you essentially reduced to eating lettuce?

I feel like I'm shilling for kwik meal but it's what's on my mind with smp2 out today. I always thought the chicken over rice or even combo over rice at kwik meal was pretty healthy. Go easy on that white sauce and rice. It seems zach is saying the white sauce is yogurt based, so maybe it's not so bad for you.

Otherwise maybe pick-a-pita for that spicy chicken shwarma platter and go easy on the pita and tahini?
