D&S Deli on 56th between 5th and 6th is pretty solid. More of a suburban deli than the generic midtown ones.

I got to Toasties pretty often and their sandwiches are pretty satisfying for about $8 for a hero. The best part is they really load up the sandwiches with meat or whatever else you are getting in it. Definitely check it out on Third Ave between 55 and 56 if you're in that area.

I hate generic delis, but there is one I go to because it's cheap and portion is big. I have no idea what the name is, but my office coins it the "dirty deli" (hey, you get what you pay for!) and it's located on 53rd St between 6th and 7th Ave.

Hot Sandwiches are huge and ~ 6-7 bucks.

defontes is great. I'll also repeat, milano deli, 34th between madison and 5th. I have half the milano special sitting in my fridge. it is as hearty as delfontes, but no hot salad or marinated mushrooms. More meat though, which is a plus in mybook.

It's out of range but I had a huge killer roast beast sandwich (#20) at Defontes at 3rd Ave & 21st St last week.

Big, thick, long and meaty enough to choke a Mamacita
