i've stopped in at FnF a few times since their rather uneventful opening. After a price drop, and the fluxuations in quality and patty size - I must say... the double cheeseburger I just had was the best one yet. I think they might be finally finding a groove.

The patty was well charred and had good texture. The sauce was not runny and just a bit sweet.

After severa months of disappoitment, I'm giving it a thumbs up.

If you guys read Metro NY, there was a 15% off coupon in it for the Feb. 16 issue! I don't remember seeing an expiration date.

I am hyper local to the area, so I have tried FnF a couple of times since they opened. There have been some noticeable improvements AND backslides along the way.

They did lower thier prices across the board. Which is good, but the portion sizes also got lowered - so not so good. The burger patties have seriously shrunk and a double is about the same size as a Shack Shack single.

The tastiness and flavor of the food has improved as well. The grillers now do a good char on the burgers, and the fries are consistently crunchy. The shakes continue to impress, though they are 1/3 smaller then they were the first month of open.

Stools have been added to make the small dine-in experience better. But as a few mentions above state, there is hardly ever anyone there.

So I would say on average this place has improved, but it's not a top-tier burger experience by any means.

I go the same NYSC above Fresh n Fast and have never seen more than 1 person in there and its usually completely empty. The lack of customers plus the moderately bad initial reviews from A Hamburger Today do not making me eager to try it.

I think they're busy trying to fend off an In-n-Out lawsuit. Seriously, haven't been tempted to try it. If I'm headed that way for a burger, I'll stop at the Shack or continue another block to Molly's.

BTW, had the Monday-only burger at RUB (not the chopped steak sandwich). It was the "Oklahoma" burger with thin string onions smashed on one side. Was not impressed. No char, met was cooked thru, surprising lack of onion flavor, although it was very greasy (i.e., not dry). Needed salt to bring out any semblance of flavor. The bun wilted under the grease assault. Saw some other glowing reviews of this burger, so not sure if mine was an anomaly. I'll stick with the Shack for my quality burger fix, although RUB is great for bbq and tasty wings.

So now that Fresh-N-Fast has been open for a few months, has anyone else tried it? I have not patronized, just way too expensive. I usually take a peek in on my way into the gym, and it's nearly always empty. Granted, I'm never there at lunchtime, so I wonder if they're doing any business at those times? If the evening crowd is any indication, they are losing their shirts at this place.

I've actually had a good burger at Live Bait as well. I'd count R.U.B for sure - and if Live Bait is in, then Trailer Park is in.

who's up for a day-long 12 stop 23rd street burger crawl?

Wicked, would the chopped beef burger at R.U.B. count? And Trailer Park serves a decent burger, with better drinks. Feel free to scratch McD's from the list tho. Not sure why the hate, but I had a decent burger or 2 from NY Burger Co a while back. (It has been a while, tho.)

Houston's changed it's name Hillstone partly in order to get around the city's calorie count law. Redonkulous - but true. Hillstone is also the name of the holding company that owned the Houston's brand.

Molly's burger is good.

I am now starting to think that the full 23rd street corridor (with some small up/down movement) is the burger capital of NYC. This is, of course a reversal of a previously announced position on there being limited choices...

East to west (and quality agnostic) you've got the following authentic burger choices
- McDonald's
- Kool Blue
- Molly's
- Fresh-N-Fast
- Maxie's Grill (down park ave a bit)
- New York Burger Co
- Shack Shake
- Energy Kitchen
- BRGR (up 7th ave a bit)
- Lucky's Famous

Not too shabby though i wouldn't be caught dead in NY Burger Co.

@Goats - Same company as always... I remember reading somewhere a theory that they renamed the location to avoid posting the calorie counts of their dishes.

Molly's is a great pub style burger. That's close to my office. I always just assumed Houston's was too expensive for lunch.

stevenp, I wish I had your problems.
